It was a Great Honor to tour the Renovation (and some new Construction!) of the Federal Reserve Building with Chairman Jerome Powell, Senator Tim Scott, and others. It’s got a long way to go, would have been much better if it were never started, but it is what it is and, hopefully, it will be finished ASAP. The cost overruns are substantial but, on the positive side, our Country is doing very well and can afford just about anything — Even the cost of this building! I’ll be watching and, hopefully, adding some expertise. As everyone knows, I renovated the Old Post Office on Pennsylvania Avenue, and it was a roaring SUCCESS. The total Construction cost was a small fraction of the Fed Building’s cost, and it is many times the size. With all of that being said, let’s just get it finished and, even more importantly, LOWER INTEREST RATES!
As I've been trying to explain many times, Powell was a Trump appointment, and he's playing a part. You don't undo the damage the world banking system has caused us by simply ending the Fed. Leave LIBOR and implement SOFR, vacuum up all the loose "Eurodollars" (dollar futures/IOUs) the Fed can't regulate, which the world has been using for trade, interest rates that cripple central banks that cannot handle being above the zero bound interest rate, and bend the other central banks to our will while we change everything.

I bet Powell was crapping his pants before the visit. By then he knew Hulk Hogan died and that Hulk and Trump were friends. I'm sure Powell thought things were about to get really bad - and pretty much all Trump did was taunt him on interest rates and his overpriced building.
I hope that's all that was needed to get Powell to do his job. I think Trump left him wondering what shoe is about to drop.
Powells comments made no sense. The costs of a project are the costs whether a building was built in the past or not
Not clear if there was a comparison between CPIs then and now, or that the way the building was constructed in the past resulted in more expensive remediation today (e.g., use and abatement of asbestos). Many wonderful native sandstone buildings in my home town had to be demolished rather than remediated, because access to the failing plumbing was financially impractical.
