I think it is necessary. The concern has always been well, the Democrats will be able to pass anything they want when the Republicans are the minority.
I believe this bastion of current Democrats will soon be gone forever.. some blue States will disappear forever..
Future Democrats in office will be more similar to RFK Junior or at least to Fetterman.
Trump is once in a century, if not once in a millennium president. We can't pass up this opportunity..
It’s only a hostage situation when you deal with the satanic Democratic Party. Anyone with morals and ethics wouldn’t do this, like Madison said, our constitution is only fit for a Christian electorate.
The elections Tuesday seem to counter your point. A radical socialist and muslim was just elected as mayor of NYC. Virginia's new attorney general(top law enforcement position) wishes death on republicans and their children. Doesn't seem like less radical people will be elected by the dems...
How much of this is caused because of election fraud? How much because of non-american voting in the election? Both of these factors will greatly be changed in a year
Nyc just elected mamdani and that wasnt all illegals. There is definitely a hard left wing progressive component in the native population, concentrated in certain areas, and theyre skewed young. They arent going to disappear overnight. They might form a new party however
I'm truly in the "fuck it, burn it all down" team at this point and don't worry about the "what if dems..." in the future take power again.
With that said, how are we supposed to believe that if the filibuster IS terminated that the republican house we currently have would actually use it to accomplish Trump's agenda?
Republican senators, ironically, are too dumb to save the Republic.
Nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything but a majority is needed to pass legislation. The will of the people, which does not matter to a politician, should be enough.
America voted for Republicans to take charge of the government in 2024. Right now they are failing miserably.
I think POTUS knows the Republicans will never eliminate the filibuster from the Senate rules. So, my curiosity is why does he keep banging on this?
My gut says he has a reason for wanting to prolong the government shutdown. He believes the Dems would dearly love to see the Republicans nuke the filibuster before the midterms. So, they will keep holding out and, in some way, play into President Trump’s hands.
I’ve been way too busy to keep up with everyone’s thoughts here, but this is a topic that has caught my attention.
Why the hardon about it? I want less government. A shutdown does that. Keep it up. Redefine a handful of things as essential, like air traffic control, maybe, before the next one. What's going on is part of what I voted for.
The modern filibuster often doesn't require lengthy speeches and can be triggered by just 41 senators indicating their intent to oppose, requiring 60 votes to end the debate via a procedure called "cloture".
Then on to the vote to pass the bill. As it is now there are (were? I haven't kept up today) 54 senators in agreeance, which would be enough to pass it.
Now is the optimal time to go with the nuclear option. The demoncrat party is already doing a death rattle, as more and more would be demoncrat voters are turning away from the party in shame, and the illegal voters are finally (albeit slowly) being removed, which will prove once and for all there were never enough demoncrat voters to upend the conservate voters all along. The nuclear option is in my opinion sort of like the crane kick in The Karate Kid ... it would ultimately win the match. There will never be another corrupt demoncrate majority again.

Imagine the Trump agenda put on steroids!

Make Senators debate again!

Not too dumb, too corrupt and evil.
I’m sorry to say it, but I think Rand is traitor.

Get rid of it now. And, if things look negative in the future just reinstate it before losing control.
Do it. The filibuster is nothing but masterbatory politics
I used to feel differently...but now that I've read your SPOT-ON description of the filibuster here (which is poetry)...I'm on board. Nuke it.
Happy to have been of assistance

Would there be a government shutdown now if the filibuster was eliminated? Would the dems even have been able to shut it down?
No. The dems are only able to shut it down by using the filibuster.

Similar to GTFOOH, but more nicely represented:
GOOOH - Get Out Of Our House has been around for a while, in case you weren't aware.
They've tried to gain traction but failed...
I say nuke it. Its the only option before civil war in the streets. They nuke japan to save a million lives this will save even more.
