Yes it's hard to imagine just how clueless and gullible we were. I can't recall exactly how long it took me to realize 9/11 was a lie! But I do remember the red flag for me was the building 7 collapse. After I processed that bit of truth everything else starting falling into place and making sense. When I mentioned to my wife that I thought 9/11 was an inside job she thought I was nuts. But slowly she came around to the truth as well. It's been a painful journey as you have pointed out.
It hit me hard. I was there working in one of the towers (89th floor) on a pen test the week before, and left the Friday before. I was also staying in the Marriott World Trade hotel. I had worked in pretty much all of those buildings over the years. I still have one of my visitor pass stickers (from the last trip) stuck to my travel portfolio and several ink pens from the hotel.
I liked Bush back then - took me a while to see what he was doing. I mean - the fact that when I put up a lawn sign for Bush my far-left neighbor freaked out and stole it seemed like I was right.
I eventually learned.

I met him once while I was working at Arlington National Cemetery (part time while stationed at the Pentagon) and I was a supervisor with the contract company that assisted the staff, tomb guards, and tourists and escorted dignitaries.
