There were to many discrepancies in the appearance for it to go completely unnoticed. I think that was also intentional.
Here's a hot take; The US withdrawal in Afghanistan was not a blunder. I think it was a secret deal with the Taliban to take over. We gave them billions of dollars worth of equipment and isn't it funny how we haven't heard a peep from them? You'd think they would have been starting skirmishes at least.
