The opposition on this thread is what is called "straining at gnats". Trying to make the question of Mel's involvement the point when the point is people harming children in a systematic and ongoing way. I'm not a Mel fan, never have been. I like two of his movies. I don't fangirl. So all you brightly emanating types, we see you, we see what you are very lamely trying to do. But me, I'm about the CHILDREN!!!

What we are seeing now in the media regarding Trump and documents is a continuation of the narrative they started on day one of his presidency. "Illegitimate President" therefore in their eyes he did not and does not have the rights and privileges of previous presidents. Sad state of our Republic that so many believe this.

We need to break the back of the Administrative State. I think their jobs should become short term contract positions. All of them. Automatic termination dates built in except in extenuating circumstances or if there should be extreme merit earned. No pensions. Eliminate these lifetime appointment bureaucrats.
NARA are clerks. I bristle at them being called librarians. Their claims are the equivalent of the guy at the storage rental facility when you bring in two boxes to store and they say "where's the rest of your stuff?" Zero authority, anyone with brains understands that.
The line in Trump's speech last night about "what they've done to my family" has been haunting me. How much more is there that hasn't even been made public? He's spoken before about Eric handling the subpoenas, but last night he said "thousands" of them! If that is true how insane is that?

Agree. That is the distinction. It always amuses me no end that the Left is unable to see "our side" as anything but a monolith that marches in lockstep when we know the reality is anything but that. On Twitter they always respond with "but Trump said" or "but Trump endorsed this person". I'm like so?
I see it as an advantage to us that they do see us that way, it shows how limited their thinking really is. They totally can't grasp the part where we are exposing and rooting out the fake and false among us. I picture them with the most puzzled looks on their faces.
One clarification to my thinking on unifying. I think we should be communicating clearly and constantly the points we have in common. Hit them hard and repeatedly. But don't leave out the disclaimer that "yes, there are some important things we disagree on. We CHOOSE to put those aside for now for the greater good. We can revisit them later."
Communication of goals and strategy is key because in my view ultimately it doesn't even come down to those issues it come down to the character of the people involved.
I agree on focusing on what unites but we also cannot ignore what divides us. No one ever said any of this was going to be easy. It takes true maturity to find that sweet spot. You have to weight which things truly matter in the long run vs minor things that will be forgotten tomorrow.
I think one thing the media has done to condition us is to make us believe that we always have to REACT. That's what every headline is meant to do. But if we stand back and craft a RESPONSE that possibly serves everyone and meets long term goals we all win. What the reaction mind set makes us forget is that almost everything is time sensitive, everything, every event is time sensitive. So we have to ask ourselves. This IS important in this moment.... but is it as important in the big scheme/big picture?
I've long believed that Trump has an exquisite sense of reading people's weaknesses and making use of them for the short term. They can help him reach some goals and then he's done with them. We need to develop some of those skills in terms of thinking of "useful for now".
