Money simply amplifies what was already there. An asshole gets rich? Now he's just a bigger asshole with more options and fewer consequences. A generous person gets rich? Now they have even more money to be generous with.
Whether or not they have these verses and teachings internalized, if someone believes everything to be directed by God, then calling them stupid for not prepping is basically calling their faith in Him stupid, intentional or not. So, whether valid or not, it explains the downvotes from their perspective.
I could certainly get behind calling people lazy instead of stupid, however. I can't actually see much of a good reason other than laziness, or maybe some extreme circumstance, to not prep for shit hitting the fan. Seems more like these people have just given up on the required effort they would have to put in to understand what the dangers are and prepare for them.
One other point I saw be made was that you could prep for something, only for some other cataclysmic thing to happen that you didn't prep for. This argument is better but still not a good reason not to prep at all, I would say.
