It seems like what Obama (Biden) wanted to happen was for the Iran to be able to launch an attack directly, not through proxies, and Israel can't respond. They wanted Iran to set the precedent and capability.
The attack was never going to amount to anything because Israel, the US, Jordan, Iraq and Syria had a weeks notice to prepare for it coordinating their defense.
I wonder if they'll use this chance to take out Iran nuclear sites or enrichment facilities? I doubt Obama/Biden would allow that though.
