Many people are addicted to getting news. A lot of the freaked out today because to them, it looked like half their internet was gone. I could easily see a panicked user thinking something serious is going on, seeking out what social media is still up.
There was a point when reddit hammered down some of my favorite communities when I realized that if this kept going, one day I would be completely isolated from any source to news aside from what reddit mods want me to know - that day I started digging and found TheDonald.win. Outages and censorship, especially on a wide scale to get people to immediately look for alternatives.

If that's true, they should have no ability to comply.
They had a warning when I signed up, saying that if you lose your password to your account, they can't help you recover it because they can't decrypt it themselves.
