nothing was happening in Kiev (aside from hundreds of cases of nationalist ukranians opening fire on any car or person they find suspicious), but MSM was in there filming apocalyptic films about people crowded into subway for sheltering and long lines and all of that was actually set up by Kiev government simply to make the situation look worse for the cameras.
modern society collapses anyway if the internet is cut off. In case you forgot, all the government fiat transactions ALSO go through the internet these days. Without that, no one's credit card or debit card works. That means everyone tries to go get cash, but the banks branches are all essentially terminals to central systems and without internet will not be able to access anyone's accounts.
So again - no internet, its not just crypto that stops working, but entire economy.

Tl,DR - you can't convince people from combative posture. got to find common ground. Around people with way opposite political views, that means you have to tone yours down by a lot and learn to stealth tidbits in.
Also, on big issues don't try to win an argument or change a view point sharply. Almost never works. Undermine slowly. Get them used to giving an inch here, an inch there.
