Iknorite? Sounds like a blast, but apparently there's not much long term job security doing it.

To some people it's more about the power than it is the money.

I can't imagine she'll ever be hired by anyone who will give her the opportunity to bully as many people as she did on twitter ever again. She'll probably have to get her powertrip on at some second or third rate social media platform until she drives that one into the ground, too.

It's basically Get Woke, Go Broke. Some orgs have more money so they can keep up for a little while longer, but at some point your business needs to make money.

And if your business is facilitating online communication, censorship of the majority of your customers is a really, really stupid idea.

Bold move, considering we just had the first trillion dollar judgment in a defamation case. That's someone who's secure in their anonymity.

I would say that comparing this to covid is a mistake. The lockdowns drove more people online and ultimately drove more money into the tech sector. It looked like tech bucked the trend, but it was basically just benefiting from the downturn in other sectors of the economy.

In a recession, spending goes down across the board, and tech is on shakey ground as a lot of the products and services can be viewed as luxuries... or at least optional. When customers stop paying subscriptions, consuming content, or buying the current pretty device, the money flowing into the sector is going to drop. Companies are going to need to start managing costs, and the only way to do that is by managing payroll and product lines.

Bottom line is those hundreds of thousands of job openings are going to start getting yanked while the number of people who can do them is going to increase. Those who can't be reassigned or are redundant get pink slipped and re-enter the job market. Eventually some MBA will rediscover "outsourcing", and then someone else will come up with a new word for "topgrading" and write a book on it. More competition for less jobs available.

Meta has already started to turtle down, alphabet as well after a terribad quarterly report a few days ago. About to see it from Twitter big time.

It's not the end of the world. Tech workers are still going to have it easier than others in a lot of cases, but I'd expect the salaries to get a littler lower, the perks to dry up, and the process of finding a job to get harder. Will get worse longer the recession lasts.

And if someone's one of the people who's a "project manager" or "community moderator" that likes to say they are a tech worker... they should either be looking into developing high demand skills or thinking about a lateral career change right about now.

Fallujah as in the city in Iraq where 4 contractors were killed and strung up. It was a pretty dangerous place to be even if you were a fully armed and armored Marine Corps combat unit. I've lived in San Fran for a year, and it's going to take a pallet of cash to get me just to consider going back to the Bay Area.

Dragon is SpaceX's (another Musk company) manned spacecraft. I could be lured into highly disavdvantageous position in exchange for a shot at low earth orbit. :)

And Chanel Rion's phone number.

Am Site Reliability Engineer. No military or professional security experience, but am familiar with most common small arms and self defense laws.

Willing to work short term contract in San Fran Bay area for triple Fallujah rate, a ticket on Dragon, and Chanel Rion's phone number.

Exactly what I was thinking. "Don't care about him the same way he didn't care about me, but oh-my-gosh! What happened to that poor doggo?"

That's the thing: they're not scared to be fired. Well, check that. They're scared of the process of being fired and having to face the fact that someone somewhere doesn't think they're the bee's knees and super valuable to humanity.

But they absolutely think they'll be able to waltz into another Big Tech job at another office somewhere. Or failing that, they can be a "project manager" at some well funded startup who might not have a fully automated wine machine or their own chef prepared brunch available for rooftop patio dining, but still will give them gold stars for making presentations that say "We need to engage our customers moar! YAY!"

The problem is they've never seen a recession before, and the one we're on the eve of is looking like it's going to grow into a depression. They don't realize that alphabet (Google) has just announced they plan to slow down hiring (which is a prelude to freezing it then doing mass layoffs), or that Meta (facebook) is about jettison a few thousand competitors into the workforce. They think the unemployment rate will stay at 3.5% while the demand for tech employees will continue to grow. They don't realize that as this SuckFest gets going the first thing that's getting cut is the advertising budget which is bad news if you're in an industry that depends on advertising dollars to fund it.

And those side hustles are about to dry up, too.

And inflation is about to wipe out whatever you've been saving up (assuming you've been saving up).

But I actually have faith in these kids (the Gen Z'ers, not so much the millenials). Even though they haven't really been challenged, I see some natural grit and the drive necessary to make it through this. I think when the game is on, they're going to roll up their sleeves and get to work rather than sitting around crying about they miss the meditation rooms and free doggy daycare at the office.

Yes! We are! We're totally going to steal it!

You should help Hillary out and report ANYONE you see dropping off multiple ballots at a mail-in drop box. Republicans even have sleeper agents working as supervisors at various polling locations who might even try to get you to cheat for the Democrats, but it's really a trap to get you to break the law so they report you and say the Democrats were the ones trying to steal the election. If you see anyone hooking machines up to unauthorized networks, accessing protected areas around the tabulators, or asking you to re-run pre-printed ballots you should call your sheriff and report them immediately so the Republicans dirty tricks won't work.

Keep your eyes peeled, and if you see something say something!

I'm too dense to figure out the first part of that drop, and that seems like it's pretty key.

All I'm saying is there's a difference between "We're allies because we're both moving towards the same goal for mutual benefit" and "I trust to you to watch over my chicken tendies while I go get a soda refill".

I got up to speed pretty quickly with a few historical documentaries on Prime and tracking some youtube channels when Evergrande was first showing signs of failure (and I have absolutely no idea why it still hasn't collapsed yet).

CNA Insider seems to be a pretty good overview of events and culture in Asia.

India Times has some heavy pro-India propaganda, but they're not afraid to call China out.

ADVChina is a motovlog by a couple of guys who seem to be extremely familiar with the country and culture, and they do a good job of putting things in a social, cultural, and political context.

Asianometry has a lot of great vids on China's economy and another on their history, but the main focus is on tech.

Is there a plan to keep this jackass out of leadership when the Senate flips back to red? No, you don't get to be majority lead again, binky. You finish up your term chairing the Committee on Pet Rock Veteranary Assistance Programs that meets in the broom closet in the second sub basement.

Hu Jintao is basically the personification of the Chinese Deep State.

He picked Xi Jinping to be his successor because he'd been a loyal deputy, and Hu thought he could do the whole puppet master from the shadows thing. Went swimmingly... until Xi decides since he's in the spotlight he should be making some of the calls.

Hu decides giving up power was a mistake, so he "volunteers" to setup a police task force to attack the growing problem of rampant corruption, seditious talk, and moral impropriety that threatens the CCP. I forget the name, but it's something silly like "Section 59". Hu then picks the Falun Gong movement (which is basically one old dude's Tai Chi class that also weaves in some quasi religious Daoist stuff), does a PR job on them and presents them as pure evil incarnate, and ramps up his private police force to squash anyone connected to Falun Gong.

Over time, he manages to build it up so that his secret police are basically all-powerful, and there's like 9 million officers, which means they're larger than the Army and well armed.

Imagine if the FBI got the military's budget and didn't have to pretend about civil rights at all because they'd just keep disappearing until no one was left to ask questions.

There were reports a while back that Xi Jinping was running scared. Narrowly avoiding assassination attempts, afraid to leave the country lest he get overthrown, so on. Hu was the guy behind the guy who was behind it.

So, arresting him publicly is a big deal. Arresting him publicly without bothering to comment is also a pretty big flex. It all leads to some pretty interesting questions.

Is Xi a whitehat? He's done some Deep Statey stuff, but was that because he had a knife in his back the whole time? If so, are we sure he made his move at the right time and has all the bases covered? Does he have control of the secret police, or is this the opening shot in a Chinese civil war? Was all of this coordinated with the whitehats for an international October surprise? Is this something the whitehats were waiting on before starting a final push? Is the DNC shitting bricks because they just lost a major power behind their crooked schemes and the public trials meant to humiliate Hu are going to pull them down, too?

Lots of possibilities, and it's going to be fun to see how it shakes out.

And hopefully that right soon.

The only reason he was "masked" as a CI was to hide the FBI's liability in using his fake testimony to commit treason (not to mention violating multiple citizens' 4th amendment rights) by spying on a sitting President.

Far from being a valuable resource, Danchenko is a smoking gun and he's damned lucky he wasn't washed "with like a cloth" or put up against a wall and shot.

As is Christopher Steele.

Yeezy's jackeezy looks to be "hunter orange".

Some states require a certain percentage of your clothing to be hi-viz orange and visible while running around innawoods with AR-47s to murderize deers and other innocent animals who have feelings but taste delicious. You can usually get away with just a vest or a cap, but others need a full jacket.
