We live fairly rural. I know of 2 locations tonight where neighbors who did have electricity cooked hot food and soups and created a “drive through” in a parking lot for those who were cold and hungry. Neighbors helping neighbors.
I’ll never live anywhere else.
We’re the same way in Louisiana, with volunteer groups like the Cajun Army and Cajun Navy rescuing people during floods/hurricanes, helping random people gut their flooded homes, distributing supplies/meals, etc.
Mad respect for the Cajun Army/Navy. I know they’ve helped a lot of us neighbor Texans out!
Yep, right before I started 2nd grade back in 1965, my dad decided to go to law school. We moved to NOLA a few days before Betsy hit. My dad lit up the bbq pit and seafood boiler and opened both to all of our neighbors so that they could cook the food in their freezers. He made numerous runs to a convenience store that sold dry ice so food would not go bad. Dad kept them going for the 2 weeks there was no electricity. We met many of our lifelong friends because of a disaster.
My prayers are with those in TX and OK and any others affected by this winter storm.
Great post, TXBeeLady!
No “mass looting”. That’s because most people here are just downright good folks; and the few that aren’t know we all have a gun… or several. ?
Kentucky has quite a bit in common with y'all ?
South Texas where I live in a rural area also. We have been without power and water since the 14th. Had a bunch of spare candles so shared the wealth. My neighbors were giving food, toilet paper, bottled water, etc. Power just came back on today but no water still. Love our Fire Department was giving water to the whole town. No looting or break-ins either. Love Texas! God Bless!
I lived in Fort Worth a long time ago, California transplant. What I found amazing was that when a Texan asked "How are you doing?", pardon me, "How y'all doin'?" it was a sincere question about your well being. In CA the same statement had the mechanics of caring but if you actually told someone what was going on in your life their reaction might be "Whoa dude oversharing, TMI!". But if you told a Texan things weren't going well their response was likely "Is there anything I can do for you to help?". I've held native Texans in high regard for decades for this..
You know what we really need? A lot of videos by people showing these things. I want the rest of the world to realise that looting and rioting is not the only thing that happens in America, that honest good people are there everywhere. Right now the rest of the world has a very warped view of Americans, especially conservatives, and having a whole bunch of videos to denunk that myth would be very useful
The thought didn’t cross my mind. If they do it again tomorrow, I’ll try to take video and share.
Those videos were super fucking helpful for morale during Harvey. My only resources were the local subreddit and the YT channels I found from locals through there. That sub was a beautiful and friendly place for about 2 months before it went back to racist libtardland again. Random dudes with lifted trucks were reporting on the water levels at the different places around town that were struggling to keep up with the waterfall. Local rappers were using the footage to show how strong our community is.
Great point! Don’t plan on the media showing the world all the good that happens behind the scenes.
Regular people videos on YT used to be the norm but they changed the algorithm. MSM videos are the only ones that show up now. Regular people videos are deeply buried.
Yeah, people who dont understand the power of algorithms and machine learning until now, hopefully they wake up to understand how deadly they are.
Yep. The YT search function is useless now. Even if you type the exact name of a smaller channel it may not show in results. If it does, it'll be 20-30 listings down.
God bless Texas. ? ?
We're long time, military Texans. I would never live anywhere else either.
I’m in Houston and just like what happened a few years ago when Hurricane Harvey hit us, the American spirit comes alive with fellow Texans and our great neighbors in Louisiana helping each other. We will survive this crisis without all the problems that exist where Democrats are running things. Good people of this world out number the bad by so many and that scares the hell out of the evil ones that want to destroy us. WWG1WGA!!!!!!!!
Amen!
Yep.... Been here in the Houston area 46+years.... Seen lots of disasters and people always help each other out....
From one Texan to another... AMEN!❤️
Well said. I have family in TX and know they are the salt of the earth. Stay warm.
We never lost power, but haven’t had water since Monday. We went to the closest “drive through” to offer up some bottled water we had stashed. When we pulled up, someone had donated many cases of water. We were offered food, but declined since we have facility to cook.
That's true community! As it should be! When humanity comes together in times like this it shows its possible. If only people would use that same compassion daily.
No looting, huh?
Let's briefly analyze that:
Open Carry State
"Red" State
HEAVILY Christian
'nuff said.
I love this! ♥️ I've never been fortunate to visit or live in Texas, but it's the kind of place I'd never want to leave. I hope it always stays that way. Thank you for sharing a lot of light today.
Red hearted Americans, patriots. Makes you wonder what good a “Democratic” government is good for.
Greg Abbott. (although I was referring the large Federal government in my statement with all their in-fighting, the state governments “usually” work a bit better at taking care of the people’s needs. In Texas’s case at the moment, they don’t have the infrastructure to handle a once-in-a-120yr snow storm. )
Ted Cruz is a Senator. Greg Abbott is a Governor. Did I miss something. Was that a joke?
God Bless Texas!! God Bless America!!
I can’t claim birthright in Texas, but I choose to be a Texan. Hell yeah, this is MY Texas!
I've been thinking endlessly about all of you; it makes me sick when people say that Texas was ill prepared. ILL PREPARED for a BLIZZARD? You don't say??? If this crap happened in PA, that's called being ill-prepared. I don't even know how you would prepare for this type of weather event somewhere like Texas- how you'd get your hands on enough plows, generators, salt/ash, etc.. it's just not needed there, EVER.
Will be thinking of you all!! <3
My brother just moved from PA to Texas back in the fall, to escape the snowy winters. Last night, he and his wife were building a living room fort out of blankets ?
That's pretty funny, haha! This is actually the first WINTER we've had in a few years.. we'd get one or two snow storms but the snow would be gone before you could blink. I'm not a HUGE fan of the snow, but I love living in place with all four distinguishable seasons.. this is the first winter in a while that there's been at least some snow on the ground basically every day. (Trying to remember what that groundhog did with his shadow this year.. hahah).
Hope your brother and sis in law are doing okay; although I suspect their bodies are a bit more used to this than their neighbors, at least.
This needs more updoots.
Remember when natural disasters were blamed on our President Trump for 4 years? I do. Hurricanes, Tornadoes etc... why does Xiden get a free pass? We should be blaming him for all of this jut like the left did to trump.
If Trump didn't have people on the ground within 24 hours of a natural disaster, they criticized him.
Biden ignores this one and the media says nothing.
Can confirm. The Boot Barn next to my apartment has been untouched (Houston)
A neighbor and I helped another neighbor get unstuck today.
Guess what? None of us were the same race. We all got along and live in the same neighborhood with similar housing.
Amazing, you'd think we've already solved all the problems the "progressives" are just finding out about.
I love this!
Damn straight. As a Texan in a large city I've seen all of this. I've also seen politicians with knee-jerk reactions "it's not my fault!" Abbott, who just received some stupid green energy award after selling us out to windmills that froze up, came out for a presser and basically all he did was give us a weather forecast. I used to like Abbot. He'll never get my vote again.
Yeah - Abbot hasn’t quite passed my smell test since COVID started. Let’s hope someone steps up to the plate in ‘22.
Same here! Not voting for that POS again
God bless you Texans! A beacon of hope in this shit-filled existence in Colorado.
Right there with you, did you see our idiot Gov. start pushing the “green” we aren’t even out of this storm yet and he’s pushing that crap! Total AW. Texas will fix this we in CO need to vote all this outta here! Again God bless Texas and all the Red states!
Proud to be a Texan!
Yepp. That is my Texas too.
Oklahoma here. Same thing up here. Hell those 4wheel drive good citizens even brought me my weed. Almost like it better like this.
When this disaster has passed and things have normalized, Biden will ask for your Texan tax dollars to be spent on more climate change fluff. Because it's proven science.
Right? And where exactly is the FEMA help promised?
I want my DJT back.
Texas people... you mean Americans. I see that same thing anywhere liberals are few and far between.
Yes we are Americans, but we’re Texans too! And we’re proud of our Texas roots and what it means to being Texan as well as American. They go hand-in-hand!
100% this. Im in rural Texas too. I almost dont even want help from the feds. Community help is far superior than any government assistance. Can we just succeed now?
Thanks for sharing! I'm amazed that I still unthinkingly believe anything our media says. I should know better by now...
Texas has set the example for the rest of the country.
God Bless Texas and the wonderful Texans!!
Excellent post! ?
Ironically, some mostly peaceful fires would warm things up.
I love this!!
Tennessee right there with ya. Tri-Star with the Lone Star. Country folks CAN survive. Run that fuckin trot line boys!
