Okay, so I've been banned twice for civil posts in regards to this guy.
Basically, he created the N word problem so he could act like a savior and when called out on it he set the posts on that thread to "New" instead of "Top". I called him out for that as well and received a one day ban.
Then earlier today I caught him deleting posts for no reason other than to seemingly post them himself. He acts like a reddit mod trying to garner karma, as if he thinks this place will replace reddit or some shit. I'm not here to guess intent, I'm just calling it as I see it. I received a 3 day ban for that one and now all of a sudden they're deciding to have him "face scrutiny" while the most vocal of the people who had a problem with him are banned.
If it was up to me I would just demod him and focus on the task at hand, but it's troublesome getting this message to catsfive publicly. I'm not here to harass anyone. I came from Voat. I've been at this since they banned FPH.

I recognize that the "civil discussion" rule has been in place for a long time but I'm concerned about how it is evolving. Its intention is clearly stated to permit people to participate in the discussion rather than to "divide." The problem is that someone can always take offense to something. I think that any form of language policing is a very dangerous road to go down in general and this is one of those "open ended rules" that is very difficult to keep in the bottle. The big problem is that everyone's standards of "decency" differ. When one side makes their "decency" the law, everyone else who doesn't share that standard suffers.
At the end of the day, this mechanism... this rule... whilst originally meant to include everyone... can become a threat to to the mechanism of communication itself by alienating "unpopular" words and behaviors. This is precisely why Reddit and other platforms are failing. When we alienate one person for an unpopular opinion, we eventually alienate all people because someone will take offense to something no matter how innocuous.
Most people don't like the "N-word" which is what stirred up this ban hammer festival in the first place. But where do we stop? This is like a canary in the coal mine.
Think about it this way: What happens when an atheist decides Christianity is offensive? Do we ban talk of that?
What happens when the FBI shills claim Q is offensive? Do we void our entire forum by rejecting Q?
Banning for speech must be treated the same way as the US government treats nuclear weapons. It's a form of "mutually assured destruction" that must be treated with the UTMOST caution. That's the hard lesson that any moderating group has to keep in mind. You are literally wielding a tool with the power to destroy the forum itself. Think carefully and use it wisely.

Are you guys really that desperate for mods? Uhtred’s authoritarian obsession with control and abuse of power to ban anyone he doesn’t like does not correlate with the purpose of this forum. If he continues to be in a position of “management”, we can only assume the board supports and agrees with his methods. If that’s the case, then this forum has been compromised and I’m not even sure it’s credible as long as Uhtred remains a mod.
I am retracting my position that Uhtred should be dismissed as a mod. I’ve seen humility and potential from his comments. Maybe if he just understood that we don’t need a parent. We are pretty tired of being treated like children in general from almost every position of authority. I think people should just say what they think and do what they do...as long as it does not physically affect another individual’s person, property or purse. As for feelings? People need to get over themselves. The universe is not here to coddle you. (I mean you general, not you Evspra. You rock.)

Im sure that had something to do with his decision to make them private again, but without any transparency on the mod actions we can only make educated guesses.

Okay, so I've been banned twice for civil posts in regards to this guy. Basically, he created the N word problem so he could act like a savior and when called out on it he set the posts on that thread to "New" instead of "Top". I called him out for that as well and received a one day ban.
Then earlier today I caught him deleting posts for no reason other than to seemingly post them himself. He acts like a reddit mod trying to garner karma, as if he thinks this place will replace reddit or some shit. I'm not here to guess intent, I'm just calling it as I see it. I received a 3 day ban for that one and now all of a sudden they're deciding to have him "face scrutiny" while the most vocal of the people who had a problem with him are banned.
If it was up to me I would just demod him and focus on the task at hand, but it's troublesome getting this message to catsfive publicly. I'm not here to harass anyone. I came from Voat. I've been at this since they banned FPH. (To clarify, by CREATED the N word problem, I mean he took his bellows and blew it on a fire that was smoldering after the voat migration.)
BUT! I will lend some credit to the fact that I was unbanned to post in this thread, that's gonna earn quite a few points with me. The truth about Uhtred from my perspective is that he works selfishly thinking of his own benefits instead of those of the movement... kinda like we all do when we're young. He's gonna be a helluva force for freedom someday but I don't believe that is this day. But I never heard of any that have actually been revealed, nor have I come to the understanding that these messages were designed to be cracked by anons or their purpose was to send messages to anons.

Anons never cracked any of the hidden messages. And the theory on the chans was that the hidden messages where not for us...but was how Q communicated with white hat operators.
The codes could have been sent privately to unlock the publicly posted images which would allow operators to not expose themselves.

It's pretending that Q wants us to try to crack a message in an image based on nothing but huge leaps of logic.
It's not presenting it as a theory, it's stating it as fact and an absolute call of action that us anons should be doing this.

I was here the day things blew up with the "word" and the permanent ban...my take is this.
When I was growing up (many moons ago) we would sing a little diddy that went "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me" Most Americans feel our freedom of speech is being eroded word by word so this "knife cut deep" with many here.....I believe there are so many words in our language to use that people can definitely find another, but then I choose to try and heal not hurt feelings....many feel differently...freedom of expression is a hill many of us choose to die on as it is an inalienable right!
As this was going on I took some time to look at your decisions and posts because I did not want to jump to any conclusions without first getting to know you through your history....you know, benefit of the doubt. I came away with the impression that you were not from the US...(now know your from NZ). Also you are probably pretty young (under 25) and male.
I have a bit of a different role in all this because as a "seer" I interpret "God's drops" but am so blessed to have found this place! You all are amazing with what you do and truly are a great force in Gods plan!
One of the most spoken/written phrases that God tell us is "humility before honor".....be humble in the eyes of the Lord because if your pride clouds your judgment, wisdom leaves which leaves you vulnerable to having to defend/explain yourself...if you choose (God gives us free will) to fan a flame you get a fire, sometimes smothering it leads to no damage and makes a hero. It's got a lot to do with HOW you say and do things.
I commend you for reaching out because dialogue is much needed in this situation we face. I believe you are genuinely wanting to keep this "home" civil. Look more toward HOW you say things to those you are tasked with judging (think Solomon)....enlighten them instead of being so quick to strike back in defense. Fair enough. I'm compelled to acknowledge an attempt at reconciliation.
I recognize that the "civil discussion" rule has been in place for a long time but I'm concerned about how it is evolving. Its intention is clearly stated to permit people to participate in the discussion rather than to "divide." The problem is that someone can always take offense to something. I think that any form of language policing is a very dangerous road to go down in general and this is one of those "open ended rules" that is very difficult to keep in the bottle. The big problem is that everyone's standards of "decency" differ. When one side makes their "decency" the law, everyone else who doesn't share that standard suffers.
At the end of the day, this mechanism... this rule... whilst originally meant to include everyone... can become a threat to to the mechanism of communication itself by alienating "unpopular" words and behaviors. This is precisely why Reddit and other platforms are failing. When we alienate one person for an unpopular opinion, we eventually alienate all people because someone will take offense to something no matter how innocuous.
Most people don't like the "N-word" which is what stirred up this ban hammer festival in the first place. But where do we stop? This is like a canary in the coal mine.
Think about it this way: What happens when an atheist decides Christianity is offensive? Do we ban talk of that?
What happens when the FBI shills claim Q is offensive? Do we void our entire forum by rejecting Q?
Banning for speech must be treated the same way as the US government treats nuclear weapons. It's a form of "mutually assured destruction" that must be treated with the UTMOST caution. That's the hard lesson that any moderating group has to keep in mind. You are literally wielding a tool with the power to destroy the forum itself. Think carefully and use it wisely.
P.S. People are really sensitized to this NOW because we've seen this "meltdown" occur several times. It gets annoying, really, to think "yet another Reddit."

While I haven't been aware of this issue and so far I don't think I've encountered any deletions of my posts/comments, I've got to give credit to UhtredRagnarok for wanting to bring this to the forefront and hopefully make things better knowing that he/she might be getting a lot of complaints, maybe rightly so (I really don't know).
In terms of temporary bans, seems like a reasonable penalty if applied correctly and consistently as there has to be some deterrent for inappropriate behavior.
I am Australian, and 1A is extremely important to me, as it should be for all people. I refuse to cower to the rule that censorship is a good thing.
