To be honest 90% of society's problems I think boil down to people failing to keep their pants on. While jerking off is probably the least productive thing you can be doing, that's also the least amount of trouble you can get in. Looking at all the people that end up in horrible situations because they 'needed' to use their parts with somebody. Everyone engages in unproductive activities sometimes. Some people jack off literally every day. Ultimately as long as you don't let your sexual behavior define who you are I don't think it matters.
Erotica is a complex artform that is supposed to evoke a certain response from the viewer, just like any other form of art. But most porn is the erotica equivalent of reality tv. you know the type, mediocre acting, clearly scripted, and a underpaid camera crew picking the least flattering angles for the cast. Erotica needs to be controlled, fantasized, exaggerated, and perfected. reality draws your attention to flaws or blemishes, you end up staring at a person's bouncing parts for more then a few seconds and you will know every wrinkle or mark on their skin. that is BAD for the experience. Erotica is best experienced as a book, or drawn artwork. A fantasy, where everything is perfect. While I'd love to point out a individual work of art that evokes that response, everyone is different, and not everyone enjoys the same thing.
