The events might be real initially but the media hype is what's manufactured. They pick and choose what stories get how much air time and how many news cycles before moving on to the next thing. This is why Trump was such a curveball. He defined the news cycles instead of letting the media do it. Probably one of the most interesting things about watching stuff like The West Wing.
