My wife and I tested this about a year ago. She had FB Messenger installed on her phone, and there were news reports about Messenger listening to you even when it was turned off.
We started talking about something we had never discussed before, never searched before, and never had an interest in (to test the theory), and within 3 days she started getting ads for that thing on Facebook.
They ABSOLUTELY listen in on you even when the app isn't running.
I've seen it with ads before too, but not actually pickup what we were talking about on a phone call together. I'm out of town working. I don't have Facebook or messenger, I got banned back in January.

I think it's a lot more than Facebook, too. ANY connection to the internet can be monitored by the government. And it gives them even more if the device has a camera/microphone.

This has happened to us when my husband and I were discussing getting new furniture for our family room. My sister and I have "tested" Alexa from various distances in the room to see if "she" is listening to our conversation. LOL She IS!

If dark skin people don't trust something from the Gov't, it might be a good idea to find out why, it could save a lot of people if found out early enough. I was talking on my landline to schedule a GYN appointment. 30 minutes later, I open FB and am shown a Wish . com ad for a speculum. Really? Like that's something a normal person would buy? KEK
We now make a game of seeing how much is heard. So far, we have discussed and gotten ads for gutter guards (already have them), funeral homes (no one's dying), deck screws (had a new one installed two years ago), doorknobs, black hair care products (we're not black) and more.
Here us a fun experiment my wife and I did: Every 15 or 20 minutes (assuming you have the FB app on your phone), speak the words "Elephant Ears" to your phone. Even if your phone is locked. Just say it. Do this about 10 times throughout the course of the day. After every 2d or 3d time look at your FB feed. Watch for the advertisements for Elephant Ear plants, or Ads for your local zoo.
When I was on FB, I was aware of the Messenger issues and refused to have the app on my phone; was amazed at the people grousing about FBs growing tyranny on their phones. I attribute this to an advanced Stockholm Syndrome keeping the many under willing surveillance.

I was looking forward to the precipice, not anymore. We are so far from this election being “fixed”, I only see misery in the future, maybe for about another year. I just hope all of my family is actually around for the bullshit I have been talking about for three+ years

Yeah, I quit facebook last October. It's amazing how freeing it is to not pay attention to social media.
This test is what finally got the wife to delete the apps from her phone (she still uses the FB website though...)
