Most of those trucks would have arrived full, with many bringing extra fuel.
The truckers aren't dumb. They are organized and have supporters. It will all work out.
It's a bigger problem for the gub'ment if the truckers run out of fuel, because then they will have a convoy of trucks blocking access to the city unable to move.
It would take weeks to tow them since there are very few big tow rigs available.
They don't even have to idle. Many trucks have backup generator/heat systems that siphon diesel off the tank to allow heating and cooling in no-idle areas
Brilliant! When they cut off the fuel supply and have 50+k big rigs clogging the streets, they'll be faced with a HARD choice. DO YOU WANT TO PLAY A GAME?!?!
I'll give you an interesting fact. A diesel doesn't burn enough fuel at idle to keep itself warm. Thats why you'll hear them on a high idle. Thats the purpose of the covers on the grills as well. They can turn thier cooling fans off as the only time they really need them is when climbing a hill.
I understand that quite well but there's no way it sips a tenth of a gallon in an hour. My limited research is telling me they use around 0.8-1.0 gallons idling for an hour. I don't own one though, so I don't know anything.
Best comment. These are men and women who live in these machines to feed themselves and their families. These are not government employees. [These] tyrants are stupid. The trucks will run till the victory is won.
Tanks are ~100-120 gallon range. The rigs, fully loaded get anywhere from 6-12 mpg depending upon load, horsepower and terrain.
Now, as far as getting Diesel, who do you suppose transports this Diesel to/from various areas? I would guess Truck Stops would ask for more, and as they are a customer, if Supplier A won't deliver, then competition from Suppliers B-Z will.
And that Diesel will be hauled by a fellow truck driver.
Truckers are some of the most organized people around. They have their stops planned days ahead. They know how long it takes to stop their truck in a panic, how much fuel they need to get there, how fast they are allowed to go... Get a good logistics guy behind them and they will be set for a very long time.
The truckers will manage.

I believe you are correct.
I love this number
Yep, sorry brother, nobody here wants to spoil your 17, haha.
yep ... I want to updoot it for love, but I'm not gonna be the one to reck 17 ... KEK
We have to keep the op a 45 can we?
Pray it's true. Locals are helping with supplies, right? And not so locals are contributing gfm; only i'd rather it be givesendgo

And the Mayor of Ottawa reportedly was calling up tow truck companies and being told "Sorry, but we have covid". LOL!
For sure .. they would have thought of all of this ... running out of deisel is not fun on an engine!
They don't even have to idle. Many trucks have backup generator/heat systems that siphon diesel off the tank to allow heating and cooling in no-idle areas
The problem is, in the temperatures they're dealing with, you won't get a diesel engine going if you let it get cold.
True.
Brilliant! When they cut off the fuel supply and have 50+k big rigs clogging the streets, they'll be faced with a HARD choice. DO YOU WANT TO PLAY A GAME?!?!
I agree. The fuel adds pressure to the govt, not the truckers.
Weeks. Tanks are massive and at idle they only sip.
I will not updoot this because, well, 17. I'll just say "Great post FREN!"
I used to drive trucks and still work on them.
They work in logistics and are used to cold icy conditions. They have the support of the people. They will be ok.
Pretty sure I saw on PDW that they can idle upwards of 1500 hours since they have a 150 gallon tank
Better pump those numbers up. 150 gallon tank is what you find on a in state truck. Some of Them over the road boys are carrying 500+ gallons.
Yep those are ROOKIE NUMBERS
Most all trucks have saddle tanks, one on each side. Most trucks can carry 300 gallons, some more some less.
Going ten hours on one gallon of diesel in a large engine seems a bit optimistic to me
Run lean at low RPM and it can be done
A diesel barely sips fuel at idle. More like they dip the tip of thier tongues in it.
I understand that quite well but there's no way it sips a tenth of a gallon in an hour. My limited research is telling me they use around 0.8-1.0 gallons idling for an hour. I don't own one though, so I don't know anything.
remember this is not the government we are talking about ....Truckers got this..believe it

Wonder how many tanker trucks are in their ranks. If there's 50k trucks I'd bet a good number of tankers kek
It’s a bit less than a gallon per hour. So 6 - 12 days roughly.
Correct: https://learndiesels.com/8-idle-facts/
The organizers have plenty of fuel and food.
Blockades are meant to be broken. Truckers are resilient problem solvers. They will find a way to stay fueled.
I guarantee there are more than a few fuel trucks in that convoy.
Ha! That works!
it's all gonna get snowed in. the trucks will just get left there until spring thaw out
They have a tanker. It's all organized. They have 2 headquarters. I follow the main guy.
ya got any good links to watch it all?
My initial thought. Weather is not on their side.
Canadians can handle the cold
Sure hope so otherwise, move. Cold = more fuel. Unless you are a battery baron
One tanker truck could serve alot of other trucks!
Are they intermingled in the group?
Friendly reminder, all diesel at all truck stops is delivered by tanker trucks.
If they are in the convoy, which I am sure they are, we're good for a long time.
Some of the pics I've seen on the boards showed tankers in the convoy... I honestly believe they'll be just fine...
Here you go... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7r9vDUr-W0
Until it runs out. :)
