The sounding of horns for many days also brought down the walls of Jericho.
Gideon also used horns and torches to scare away the Midianite armies.
Damn sure did. Some rough, rugged days they were.
The account in Judges makes it explicitly clear: The victory came from God alone, not the people involved.
They used torches, jars, and trumpets in obedience to God, but it wasn't any of these things that got the job done.
It is very important to be clear on this point.
That's being a little pedantic don't you think?
Obviously the victory came from God but God chose Gideon specifically to carry out His orders.
Gideon was especially unimportant since he was the youngest son from a poor family. He was chosen by God to deliver Israel out of the hands of Midian.
Joshua didn't technically bring down the walls of Jericho either, nor Moses parting the red sea, but God used them to accomplish this.
If it is pedantic, then why do ALL of the accounts you mentioned go out of their way to make the point that it is God's action, not the people's action that wins the day?
"The Lord will fight for you, you need only be still."
"For the Lord has given you the city!"
"You have too many men... ...In order that Israel may not boast... ...that her own strength has saved her..."
This entire post has been misguided. First confusing trumpets with horns. Then the top response mis-attributing the source of victory.
We are in for a long fight. Sometimes we will be feeling up and powerful but sometimes we will also be feeling down and vulnerable. It is critical for us to understand "Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men who cannot save."
"Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God."
Our job is to be obedient and to have faith that God will win the day. This might mean that we do some unusual things a la Moses, Joshua, or Gideon, but these actions are done in obedience and not in our own strength (see Numbers 14.40-45).
P. You have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.
This metaphor of the “exalted horn” comes from an image of a bull lifting up its horns after winning a battle. The raised horn is a common biblical symbol of victory, especially of being rescued from oppression.
No. The horns did not bring down the walls. That would be impossible.
God brought down the walls. The horns were blown as a sign of obedience to and faith in God.
Yeah I know that, but God wanted horns to be used in preparation for the walls falling. If God had wanted to He could have just blown them down Himself immediately as the people got there, but He wanted it to be with their help so He instructed them to blow their horns and encircle the walls for several days before they eventually came down. It was God but He wanted His people to be a part of it.
Two things:
God didn't need or want their help. God DID want their obedience and faith.
They used trumpets, not horns. The original post confuses the two.
Edit: OK maybe just one thing. Translations varry between horn and trumpet.
God doesnt need your interpretations of his actions.
A trumpet is a horn.
What most people screw up is the difference between a trumpet and a cornet.
As DireCarbon said, God doesn't need your interpretations. God already had their obedience, but God also likes to work through people to get the things that He wants done. It was through Moses that God led the Israelites out of Egypt. It was through Mary that He brought Jesus into our world to live a fully human but also fully divine life. If God wanted to He wouldn't have needed to use people at all, but He chooses to do so because He wants us to participate in His plans.
Trumpet players call their instrument a horn, possibly because it is a type of horn
I was an amateur player through ... any pros are invited to confirm
This is true, but just because English uses the word "horn" for both the instrument and the animal part, this does not mean that other languages do the same thing.
Thit s is true but I wasn't referring to the animal part
Only horn as a nickname for trumpet
Don’t be a butthead about it, nobody likes a butthead. Don’t be that guy.
He’s a butthead because he told truth? How interesting.
You can be a butthead with telling the truth too. Just take what you’re doing for instance, being a butthead with acting dumb. You could respectfully disagree with someone, or point out you think they’re wrong without acting superior or like a butthead.
Then there are a lot of buttheads on this forum. Lots of truth here. Thanks for pointing that out.
My pleasure.😎
Actually, if I’m not mistaken, the horns were blown at a specific times by the priests as they circled the walls, city, for days, and on the seventh day when the priests blew the long blast...every man shouted at once, and God brought the walls down. According to Joshua. So technically, shouting.
1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
Joshua 6: 1 Now Jericho was shut up, and closed, because of the children of Israel, none might go out nor enter in. And the Lord said unto Joshua, Behold, I have given into thine hand Jericho and the king thereof, and the strong men of war. All ye therefore that be men of war, shall compass the city, in going round about the city once: thus shall you do six days: And seven Priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the Ark: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the Priests shall blow with the trumpets, And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout: then shall the wall of the city fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up, every man straight before him.
I believe it’s time for round ups and arrests of corrupt politicians.
IMO it's been time for a hundred years. The thing is, we're getting to where it can finally be done.
And do not confuse the last Trump with Trumpets of Revelation. See Numbers 10 chapter 1….find the Trump of God as it can only be blown by men not angels as In Revelation angels blow the trumpets. But the Trump of God is two but a whole piece, made of silver! One for the South camp (those living) one for the East camp ( those dead as those are buried facing East). So when the last Trump sounds both the living and dead begin their journey of the rapture!
Watch CA.
CA….two meanings; California or CANADA. 😬
Oh they’re coming to CA…… super bowl convoy

Trump - America's horn Truckers - Canada's horn
I think the bible is telling us the story right in front of us. I'm reading it cover to cover to understand what is going on.
"It's biblical" is tied to the bible and the truth is hidden there. That is what Q is telling is. Right Q. Tell me I'm wrong....

The problem with this interpretation is that the horns usually being referred to are animal horns, not musical instrument horns.
You may be correct, but in times like these Trucker Horns Matter. 😁
u/#Honkler
Maga P...all horns matter
Okay, fine. You're right. ✅
Animal horns were used to make noise in ye olden days. That’s why modern horns are called horns.
Double meanings exist
If they had stainless steel, air compressors and electricity they’d have used them back in olde timey times.
Shofars my friend, shofars.
Joshua at Jericho, and the walls came tumbling down, the walls around our hearts, the walls imprisoning us. Let's remember the January 6 prisoners at this time, let the horns sound for their freedom as well!
Now is the time to push forward in that spiritual battle and take command, redeem the earth and possess the land We Are The Joshua Generation!
Where do you think the musical instrument was derived fro? Animal horns.
Have you ever tried blowing one when it is attached to the animal? It won't end well!
The idea usually being referenced is that the animal's horn is a symbol of its strength - with its horn it can defend and attack.
This idea is also used in the apocalyptic sections where you read about beasts with various numbers of horns. Musical instruments are not part of the imagery.
I was thinking along the same lines.

I'm getting goosebumps. The hockening is really biblical
There it is. Nice.
And all the horns of the wicked He will cut off, But the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.

Every horn in the world is in “F” key. Everyone. I wonder if that has any correlation?
Me thinks not. And you can’t spell “Freedom” without it. 😎
I’m not. Why the fuck do you think this couldn’t be a screen grab from someone else? Think….
