My Russian keyboard (yes, have bought 3 of them in Russia over the years) has й on the key with a English Q.

Й is a short i, similar to the y in the word buoy.

Russian has no letter written as a backward Z.

It also has no letter J or C. (What looks like C in Cyrillic is pronounced S.)

There is a backward N that is the letter i.

I don't know what the letter Z is supposed to represent on those tanks but it definitely isn't Q or Z.

The letter is a low ranking consonant in the usage table and on the standardised Russian Keyboard it’s placement is at the same place as a QWERTY Q is found.

Variations in Cyrillic exist across the region but the letter I’m referencing as Q replacement on the keyboard consistently is placed there in ALL regional languages across the Caucasus.

So I think the ‘Z’ is being used as the symbol by the fascist Ukrainians. Ive seen their flags as a Z with a line through it. Ive also seen just a Z. I think in some vids that’s Russian soldiers moving Ukrainian kit off the road so they can keep momentum. I think some of the Ukrainians are abandoning their stuff and running.

So I disagree with this article and I’m not sure that the invading Russians are using the Z. Before this I’ve always seen it on Azov and other Ukraine groups. It was used by the SS in WW2.

They could have still used the letter Q whether it’s in their alphabet or not - it’s not like it’s illegal. So to jump to this notion that Z is a substitute for Q is just funny.
