That's great. I'm sure, however, that this will be a very hard time to discuss difficult to explain topics when he is already dealing with his own crisis. Consider holding off on the heavier conversations until he has some grieving time, unless he brings it up. It's hard to lose a beloved pet.

They have to see the lies for themselves, and get angry on their own that they were lied to. But you presenting evidence now is arguing and hardening their stance. Be glad you succeeded in some important ways. Rule of conflict avoidance: don't argue, don't belittle, and don't agree. I know the last sounds counter intuitive but it keeps you free.

You have to remember people born very early 80's back into the 60's grew up when Russia wad the big bad wolf. I have to admit, it took me until late last year to question the idea that maybe Russia isn't what I was "taught". It's some amazing multi-decade programming.
Right now, we are concerned of exposing children to all the things the left is doing because they are young and impressionable. Now, take a few generations (Elder Millennial, X, Boomers, etc) where a lot of our young impressionable years we were taught Russia was bad and had a finger on the nuke button with a bad temper. Give us a chance to reconcile that with what we know now....got some reprogramming to do.
I was born in 81 and I was worried about nuclear bombs for quite a few years of my young years. Maybe those born 3-4 years after me may remember it, but I remember it quite well. Russia has been the bad guy from at least the 1940's on.
Ask him if lies were used to start the war in Iraq. Y'know, did we ever find the weapons of mass destruction? What about Afghanistan. Bush said he would provide proof that bin laden did 911. Did he ever give us that proof?
What about Syria? Did they lie about the use of chemical weapons?
Oh and uhh do you remember Hunters laptop from hell. Didn't that have some Ukraine stuff?
If your dad is religious, ask him if its Russia or if its Ukraine that has taken the role of godless sex fiends.
Advice - don't push him too hard but ask him to be open to being deceived on what is really happening between Russia and Ukraine. I'd also ask him to look up the Azov Brigade patch and have him compare that to patches from the SS "Das Reich" and "Nazi Black Sun" and have him look up Azov Brigade crucifixion video. Maybe those will open his eyes a little. You don't have to take the position of supporting Putin in order to point out the bad guys on the Ukraine side. You may also want to ask him what he would think the US response would be if China made a pact to arm Mexican drug cartels on the US/Mexico border.

Ask questions they can't answer. REAL questions, not rhetorical questions.
