I want to thank everyone for you prayers, love, and shared heartache. Fiona was everything I could have asked for. I spent the day crying and reading all of your responses. The enormous outreach from my frens is helping me and my family through. Here's her the day we brought her home. (media.greatawakening.win)

The loss of a pet is one of the most agonizing experiences I've gone through. It is horrible when you, as an owner, must make the decision to end a pet's suffering. Gut-wrenching grief is what it is. You have my prayers for peace and comfort.

I feel your pain, so sorry for your loss! Though I didn’t see your other post about your furbaby. Fiona was adorable! Bless you for giving her a good life, she will be back to visit and check on you I’m sure. She knows you loved her!

Friday afternoon we had to say goodbye to our sweet old gal who was with us for 13 yrs, since she was 7 weeks old from a rescue. It was so freaking hard! I know she is in heaven waiting for us to join her, she is no longer in pain, my sweet baby girl. It feels so damn empty in our house right now, even though we still have another pupper here, he is also grieving her, very sad to see such a rambunctious 3 yr old pup act like a tired old man, not wanting to play or be outside alone right now.

When we lost our 10 yr old chocolate lab, Bella, in Aug 2019, I cried for months. I still cry for her when I think back on that day (like now 😭). A friend sent me a beautiful image - wish I could post it for you here. The saying was, “You were my favorite Hello, and my hardest Goodbye”. Dogs really are great companions and loyal and loving friends. May God bless you with memories of happier days.

Dogs teach us so many things. They teach us unconditional love, devotion, and loyalty. They teach us that how you love them (others) will be returned in how they (others) love you back. They show us how to be transparent; how to let your real feelings show - you never have to wonder what a dog is feeling. They teach us how to evaluate others, determine if someone new is a potential new friend, or someone to avoid. And, unfortunately, they teach us how to say goodbye. I believe there are dogs in heaven. How could it be heaven without them? And even though saying goodbye to each was incredibly painful, the joy of adopting another rescue (or two) always makes the hurt go away.

They give us unquestioning love, they are happy to see us even when we just made big mistakes, and what does a dog want?--only to spend time with you. They truly are a gift from god. I am on my 5th dog who is now aging. I have been there and will say a prayer for you.

What a very blessed girl, to have been loved so dearly and share her whole wonderful lifetime with her own family. You did right by her, in every way. The hardest part for me is the aching need to be able to touch my dog I've lost. So many here, understand your heartbreak. So sad for you.

You will be crying for a long time. And that’s ok. I always remind myself that I need to strive to be better, so when we meet again I can tell my baby great stories.

So sorry for your loss, I've had to put down pets myself. Yes, you lose a family member. I keep in mind that for me to keep them while suffering would have been wrong, I think about the courage it takes to do an unselfish merciful act.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is the same as losing a family member because they are family. Thank you for sharing a picture of your beautiful Fiona. Always remember there are animals in heaven too. R.I.P. Fiona.

I believe this is the most important thing to remember... Fiona was loved and she knew you loved her and the same for you, Fiona loved you and you knew it.

The gift of our love is the most precious gift. 💕

Sadly, some never receive this gift. Thank you for sharing your adorable photo!

I've come to believe that the greatest misery is not the inability to be loved, but the inability to express love. When the object of your love goes out of your life, that doorway to love's expression closes. We want terribly to love, and to love someone who receives boundless happiness from it, and expresses it so radiantly. Grief is therefore the loss of the past happiness, and sorrow is the loss of future happiness.

I lost my dog a year ago. He was a rescue Pomeranian, rather large for the breed, and had lived a long life...but the immediate circumstance was a terrible crisis he could not survive. I won't say more on that. He was the happiest dog on Earth, being with us after an earlier life of neglect and abuse. I was going through a heart ailment and his energy gave me energy. He slowed down, and I slowed down. Now, I remember him in my prayers, and continue on.

We are all convinced we will reunite in Heaven. Why is that, really? I think it is visceral logic. It would not be Heaven if it were not so. We know that God knows this. Were we not made in His image?

I maintain that, while man and woman were expelled from Eden, the animals were not. God allows us to be in touch with what he meant His creation to be, by having relationships with animals. Not only with dogs. Cats have their world and affection. Horses are a higher order of love and friendship, and their death is the death of a dear friend and partner. We are privileged through this love to touch, in the most gentle way, the Holy Spirit shining through these wonderful beings.

If you did everything could could, then take solace in that. In matters of love, there is nothing worse than regret. Grieve, relive your love, sorrow the empty place in the future, but take comfort in having no regret. Our souls will not be spotless, but having no regret comes far closer than anything else.

I also cried when my dog passed away.

I didn’t think I was ready for another one,

but after getting the next puppy, it was pure love and happiness all over again.

It might feel too soon, but if / when you get another puppy you can continue the love and happiness in your life sooner than you think, puppies / dogs just have that kinda affect on dog lovers :)

Thank you for making this post. My sweetest 11 year old American Bulldog/Pitbull mix has lost the use of his rear legs. My husband has been carrying him everywhere for weeks. We start physical therapy at a holistic vet this week. If he doesn’t get better, we will have to put him down. I’m heartbroken. He has made me smile through the toughest days of my life. I never knew how hard this would be. Sending prayers your way too Fren.

it sucks to lose a part of your family, no matter how small a part. thing is, are you ready for another dog? there are millions in need of a good home. get your ass to a shelter and see if there is one that connects with you, and fill that void left in your heart right now. it will never be filled the same way as when Fiona was alive, but with time, will ease the pain you feel now. if you are not ready, that's ok too, but look to the future, it truly is all we have now. God limits us to so few, short years with these beautiful beasts, dont short change yourself on the time spent with the next one. much love to you right now, and stay strong.
