Perfect. Lots of vacant land, factories there. Make them sit in the ruins of industry that they themselves caused.

If the government must remain centralized, then I vote for Texas, Florida or one of the central Plains states. But, I doubt that it is necessary to have a single Federal Capital. Spread out the essential agencies and branches of a much-reduced-in-size government among conservative states where it makes the most sense. Stay away from large cities.

I'd say South Dakota because geographically it's in the middle of the country and the people have got to be among the nicest in the world, but I don't want to poison it either. So I don't know.
Maybe even the SD badlands where there isn’t much else going on, so the arbitrary economy and infrastructure of the politicians wouldn’t interfere with existing farming and mining.

It's a good question but I prefer Australia One leader Riccardo Bosi's plan to end the importance of a Capitol where the government breeds corruption and lies.
Bosi's plan is to decentralize the government back into the districts and build many smaller cities rather than singe centers in each state.
This is a good idea in this day and age of Internet connectivity. There should still be a symbolic capital where the legislature meets for a few weeks a year, but all government services should be scattered across the country. Hell, put some of them in our far off Pacific Island territories and Guam. It would help their local economies. Each state should get an agency HQ for a different agency each.

Centrally located in US making it easier for citizens to go to the Capitol when necessary. Trump said they also have enough land out there to have what would be needed for security. He also said it should be something built much more majestic and beautiful with the mountainous background. Pastel colored marble etc.
It was early days when the capital was put in DC when everybody lived nearby.
Florida is having the same issue with their capital in Tallahassee, all the way North of a long peninsula state. It was built when Jacksonville and St Augustine and Pensacola were the populated area.
The suggestion of Orlando keeps coming up as it is centrally located, so that citizens have access to their capital in Florida and don't have to drive from Miami to almost Georgia!
