Home schooled both of our kids. It wasn't easy. Wife stayed home and did the majority of the work. We had to move to cheaper place, and drive used cars which I worked on myself. All my friends who asked me about homeschooling like it was some crazy thing to do, had the excuse that they couldn't afford to do it. They lived in New houses in expensive areas and drove brand new cars. Had all the toys they wanted. I used to say they sacrificed thier kids on the alter of materialism. I have no regrets. My boys are adults now, and very strong men. They have rarely done things because thier friends pressured them to do it. They are independent and strong willed. They don't melt like snow flakes when challenged. The school work we chose was called PACE. It not only had the foundations of reading, writing and arithmetic, but included character building exercises. I love the comics that compared one foolish boy and one wise boy. Simple lessons with deep impact. This is what is needed today in education. Character building exercises. Screw the public school cesspools. They are brain washing institutions of the mentally ill left. Get your kids out even if it means rebooting your entire lifestyle. Its worth more than all the money in the world.

I love the comics that compared one foolish boy and one wise boy.

Reminds me of the Goofus and Gallant comic in the Highlights for Children magazine of my youth.

Funny coincidence, my older son bought a ninja motorcycle when he got his license and started doing vloglng. I saw some of his post and he was doing wheelies (boys). So some time after my youngest son is doing his school work and the comic was about how gufus liked to show of by going fast on a motorcycle or bike I can't remember. My youngest son says to me that his brother is a goofus. Had to laugh.

Let me share how that wisdom soaked in over time. My oldest went on to be quite the motorcycle rider. Had a huge following on YouTube. He had all the top gear and was like a bat out of hell on the road, but as they become adults we become couches on the side line. Adult to adult conversations are healthier than adultbto child when they are adults. I told him love him and worry about him. I was thankful he always wore full leather and back protection. So he is now a father of his own son. Several months after his son was born he dropped everything. Said he couldn't bare the thought of killing himself and leaving his wife and kids behind.

I felt like this story didn't give him the credit due. To make a short story long, he didn't just jump on and go nuts. He used wisdom throughout the entire adventure. It started with an old yz125 someone gave him when he was 15. He pretty much got it running all himself. He would ride around our property and up and down the dirt easement leading up to it. I think he was 17 when he bought his first street bike a ninja 250. He took a 3 day motorcycle safety course which he asked to attend (wisdom). He practiced on it for maybe a year. Had some small spills. Next he bought yamaha r6. I went for a ride with him on my drz after he got it and we were going down a mountain road. I noticed he was falling way back so I pulled over and asked him if he was ok. He said I just wantbto get to know this bike before I go any faster. That impacted me. Smart kid. After a few years he upgraded to a yamaha R1. He was an assistant manager for a motorcycle repair shop by that time so he really had that bike at top performance. He road fast, but told me he felt he always kept it at a level of what he felt he could handle. He said he wasn't one to push past the envelope because he didn't like that feeling. What we discussed was the unknown variables. Rocks fallen fresh on road around a corner. Someone lost thier oil pan oil on the road, morons making uturn on mountain road etc. Thats what finally sunk in. He said he started feeling fear every time he went out because he realized he may be in full control of the bike, but he could not control the variables. Ok I fell I've done him justice.

I think I'm remembering wrong. I don't think the characters were goofus and galient. I just remember my son saying the foolish kids name. I remember the highlights books from when I was a kid. I think my memory is merging them. Getting old sucks.

Great story! Maybe your kid said 'Doofus'? That was popular back in the day.

Getting old sucks.

Getting old does have its advantages. One being (as you pointed out), the acquisition of wisdom, to be passed along, as evidenced by:

Said he couldn't bare the thought of killing himself and leaving his wife and kids behind.

Sounds to me like you did pretty good. Congrats, Grandpa!

That was the ones! They had them in various places in the work books. Part of thier work was a memory verse, and they would relate the comic to the verse. It just boggles my mind how some in this nation have come to think replacing this with trans story time is "progress".

I wish I felt that way. Honestly when we look back we always regret not doing better. For any young fathers out there BUY SOME BOOKS. Josh McDowell I think helped me later in teens and adults phase, but man I screwed up so many times. We are told kids don't come with a manual, but Dr. Dobson's "raising boys" and his audio series on adolescence are great. Many others out there. Being a good father is studying for the test, and I arrived late. Start now.

Think about your own childhood and what you learned- even the mistakes are lessons, and your kids still know you did everything out of love, which is the biggest lesson you could give.

So true ! The first step really requires us, as parents, as people, to put our foot down and say No… Jesus, our Lord and Savior, our Redeemer, will see us through everything else - the first step has to come from within us !!

The lesson every kid learns on day 1 of school, regardless of who is teaching or what is being taught: “I’m forced to do something I don't like for 8 hours every day for the rest of my life.” A consumer-slave is born.

“Unschooling” is the natural way of learning. See John Taylor Gatto, John Holt.

I’m three decades old, my older brother and four siblings under myself were homeschooled K-12 by our dear mother. She knew even in the early 90s that she wanted to keep her children out of public education. It’s been an immense blessing as I look back to see how hard she worked to educate all six of us at home. I recommend it to every single parent.

There’s so much to be said for this. I refused to send my daughter to the public schools in town for kindergarten (which are supposedly “great” in our town) because I refused for her to be masked and indoctrinated and opted for a Christian based, small independent school that feels like the way schools used to be run in the good old days, if that makes sense.

Studies have shown that small, one-room schoolhouses did the best job: mixed ages is best for kids, as the eldest set examples and help the younger (teaching another is the best way to cement learning in one's own head), while the younger do their best to emulate the elders.

Based. That’s purely the grace of God, fren.

I’ve got 3 life long homeschoolers. All of which could read at early 4 years old.

My eldest is 2 full grades ahead of where she’d be in public school.

My middle is one full grade ahead, will be two full ahead by years end.

Other than helping them learn about our Lord & Savior, It’s the greatest investment I’ve ever poured into them.

Worth every single gray hair it induced.

Got them out of school and unschooling. Piece of cake. They do what they want and everyone is happy. Just came in from yardwork initiated and started by my youngest. Life is NOT hard if we don't make it so. And especially if we do not follow so-called experts in the fields that tell you what to do with your own kids.

The time it takes to educate your kids is tough. Loss of an income plus the spouse being with the child 24/7 is sometimes hard. But if you have the fortitude to see it through until graduation, then the kids will come out a lot better off than their friends. Get them out of the indoctrination centers. Use you own talents to teach your children. Two hundred years ago parents had to teach their kids, no reason for that to happen today.

It was not easy! My wife was amazing. The oldest was self motivated, but the youngest was an uphill battle. I found that just sitting with him when came home from work and reading his work with him and asking him the questions really helped with his comprehension and motivation. He just wanted some time with me, and being with him when he was still working helped. He was always the last to finish, but made it through.

There are some great traditional Christian and Catholic schools still out there. Many of them offer tuition assistance. It is a good option if you need something between public schools and the full commitment of homeschooling.

Many of them have a strong code of conduct where violators of that code will be expelled.

Worth looking into. Also for homeschooling, if you're intimidated by the thought of being prepared to teach multiple subjects for multiple grades, they have great resources such as Seton Home Study School.

Go to any gun range on a weekday. Lots of retired men passing the time at the range with a pretty terrifying precision and accuracy. Put them outside of public school bathrooms and in the hallways to protect girls from getting raped at school. Instead of granny law it's grandaddy law.

The woke agenda in schools is what gets the most attention but there are SO many issues with public schools. The first red flag for me was the disciplinary policies. I read this book "why meadow died" and it was a absolutely fascinating how quickly they corrupted our school system with insane policy. Parents have no idea. My lib friends will spend 3 months researching a couch purchase but have never bothered to look into the policy language & curriculum for their kids schools, it's a joke. So in addition to flase flag MK ultra bullshit, you have actual mentally ill and severely behavioral issues of kids who they won't arrest on campus because it makes their "school to prison" pipeline look better.

If I had a dollar for every dumb shit comment random people make about why I pay & drive my kids to a non-acreditied private school that's far from my house I'd be a millionaire. GASP! You drive your kids 45 minutes to school, that's so inconvenient I can't imagine! Yeah dumbass because my kids safety and education are not about my "convenience". Side note since our school said fuck YOU to the state, we don't get any funding and make our own policy. I know several teachers are carrying. They have a gun range in the school basement. Lol and this is a super blue state. Also, thanks be to God their enrollment is increasing like crazy!
