Ask yourself: Why would he plead guilty to a possible 300-year prison sentence, unless he KNEW that the judge was corrupt and would let him off with a slap on the wrist?
First, a person pleads guilty, and THEN the judge issues the sentence, which could be maximum or could be mininum.
"Your honor, I don't think I can do 300 years"... Judge : "Well son, bring me what you can"
