Yes he is smart and motivated by money. But hopefully, when you have everything, you really want to be altruistic. I love his brilliance.
Altruism doesn't even need to be the point, and other people here need to understand that it doesn't have to be the requirement either.
Elon runs businesses. The best way to run a business is to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Conservatives are a massive audience that has been suppressed into seeming like the minority and therefore not worth the investment.
Elon sees through that, and understands that the best way to make money is to see opportunities and act on them; we are a MASSIVE opportunity, and all he has to do (ignore the bitchy naysayers who will never give him a chance even if God popped out in front of them and told them Elon is an angel sent by him (he's not)) is just create a platform that doesn't shame us, castrate us (or our children) or silence us.

Hmmm? Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, Starlink, The Boring Company (which drills tunnels if you didn't already know), and now Twitter. Musk has ties to the DoD because of these ventures. If he decides to sell a phone too, not sure if I like the way this is all connecting together. Somehow this seems a little too easy. You don't get to the place where Musk is unless you are allowed to be there. Something to consider. I've always had the thought that it is a good idea to make sure the pool has water in it before jumping.

Edit: plus, the Tesla is basically a gigantic phone already. All the tech is in there, he just needs to scale it - and that’s the easy part. Bringing it to market, hell, he’s already got the dealerships and mall store sales spaces. This would be a game changer like nothing we’ve seen in modern history. “Buy a Tesla, get a free phone.” The possibilities are endless.
