He's spent most of the last two decades as a museum curator. He's done very, very little academic work as an astrophysicist. But as you allude to, he was clearly selected years ago as a public face to perpetuate certain narratives.
They threw that jackass under the bus.
His handler should have told him not to do it.
But...maybe that's the point. It's time for disclosure and declass.
It's fun watching him wave his arms around, get emotional, act like a toddler.
Amen to that. I can't stand the guy. He strikes me as a complete phony, not to mention an obvious sanctioned gatekeeper for information.
I have another serious gripe with him and I say this knowing that probably 75% of people here will think I'm a kook for saying it. But Tyson pisses me off to no end because of all the abuse and mockery he's thrown over the years at alien abductees.
A good friend of mine has been an abductee his entire life and it's been nothing but utter hell for him. And I've been around him enough over the years and seen enough crazy stuff to know he's not lying. The guy has been to hell and back on a regular basis and listening to paid gatekeepers like Tyson mocking my buddy pisses me off to no end.
Interviews like this tick me off. The interviewer was not prepared, otherwise, he could've wiped the floor with Tyson's weak (and wrong) arguments. Tyson is a paid shill.

I love that meme “when you realise Dolph Lundgren has more right to call himself the Science Guy than Bill Nye” and their qualifications are lined up side by side… Lundgren is an MIT-trained Rhodes Scholar which I know is cabal-la-la and all that but still requires serious smarts to get in and finish.
