Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I have no idea what you are referring to. But don't let the door hit you in the ass. Cya.
I am talking about what you wrote about, about some train wreck post. I haven't modded any train wreck posts. As for 3 days ago? I don't know fren, I "lecture" to a lot of people. I don't keep a list of their names unless I keep tripping on the same ones again and again.
If you have problem with any mod actions or any mods, I suggest you raise it clearly and respectfully in the mod mail, and I can assure you, we will address it equally respectfully.
Note that complaining about mods on the board can be considered mod griefing.
If you have already received warnings from mods, I highly suggest refamiliarising yourself with the site rules to ensure there are no misunderstandings.
Please take this conversation to the modmail if you have anything further to discuss.
Hey ferns., Can any one you guys re post on "How to install TRUTH" on Andrio Devices Please I go it when you guys postd directions on how to install the app Thank Q:)
Watched Dances with Wolves [long version] last night instead of the Stupor Bowl. Hadn't seen it in awhile, and realized how much I missed sweeping epics such as this, Gone with the Wind, Doctor Zhivago, Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments, to name a few. It is a shame that Hollywood no longer produces quality films anymore, but thankfully they are available on Blu-Ray and I have a home theater to appreciate it. All this stuff about slavery reminds me of the troubles of the great Native American nations having to deal with the encroachment of the white man. I am not a poster child for Native American rights by any stretch [although my wife is Cherokee], but all this talk about reparations falls short because the ones who really got screwed were the Native American tribes, the Irish, the Chinese and the Italians, to name a few.
Dances With Wolves is a classic. We were living in South Dakota during the filming. That’s back when I liked Kevin Costner, now he is another woke actor that I cannot bring myself to watch.
I was 70 yrs old before I watched another epic, Lawrence of Arabia, have not seen Dr Zhivago yet. The original Spartacus with Kirk Douglas was also good.
Currently listening to Cecilia Bartoli’s « Farinelli » where she reappropriates some of the famous Castrato’s pieces. The cover is a really nice humoristic parody of Conchita Wurst’s looks.

That might be quite hard for the woke public, especially when their idols are ridiculed by such a virtuoso.

Can any one of you recommend somewhere to purchase prescription glasses because I truly believe that since we have insurance, we are being gouged when purchasing them where we have exams completed at? It is becoming highway robbery and would just like to find somewhere to plug in what 'scripts are in and get some glasses in the mail to try to select ones that will work even though I DESPISE shopping online.
I bought 2 pairs from Zenni.com Very satisfied -Progressive lenses, tint, ant-fog. $110
I've been buying from Zenni.com for many years. My doctor always checks the glasses when I go in, and finds them to be accurate. I will continue to buy from them. Single lens are cheapest, bifocals are more expensive, and they do not make tri-focals.
Here's a tip that may be useful. I used to get the half frame glasses, thinking they would be lighter weight. My prescription has gotten "strong". With my last prescription, they said the glasses I chose wouldn't work, and if I would choose a full frame they could make the lens thinner and they would be lighter weight. Turns out they have to make the lens thicker for the string across the bottom to hold the lens in for half frames.
I even get a bi-focal set I call my "computer glasses", with the upper part made to focus at the distance of my computer from my eyes (yes, I measured and took this to my appointment, but she measured again) and the reading part focusing where I actually hold my phone or a book to read. Many of the "standard prescriptions" have me holding a book almost at my neck to read! Don't know what they are thinking!
Glasses USA is my favorite. I have a dozen or so glasses depending upon my mood. They are not the best quality but you can get them so cheap and rotate them that it’s totally worth it and way better than the extremely expensive ones. Now, if you have a complicated prescription they might be harder to order. Mine is pretty simple.

I live with my 82 year old mother. We were talking over breakfast this morning, and I said…
They are really trying to push this UFO stuff on us right now.
She replied…
That’s because they’re trying to distract us from the names on Epstein’s List!
Lol! I love my mom!
Just an every day morning conversation in our household. Thought you would find it amusing.
I thought of an appropriate tune for our times, still a classic after all these years. Here is the link for I'd Love to Change the World by Alvin Lee and Ten Years After:

Enjoy!
The other day I thought of the Neil Young song, "The Needle and the Damage Done" as an unintended, yet appropriate song title for these times. https://youtu.be/aYY87VEQtRM
This is a good. I liked it and it brought back memories.

It already has one upvote, let's see who passes my little test
Does anyone make homemade laundry detergent? We bought Borax, Arm and Hammer washing powder, and Zote, as we couldn't find Fels-Naptha. Our washer won't fill with the lid open, so I will have to figure out the best time to put it in the machine so it works better. It is a little more work, but fewer chemicals is fine with me.

I’ve been using this one. I like it. Sheets seem brighter and towels cleaner. The only thing is I’ve noticed is sometimes it doesn’t dissolve completely. You have to use warm or hot water most of the time. I use vinegar when things need softened. It’s really easy to make and doesn’t involve bar soaps. I’m almost out and trying a different recipe next time. I will keep you updated.
I'm using detergent sheets. Love them
Thanks!! I always use hot water. I don't mind doing laundry now. ;)
I do. I put it in before the clothes. That what my brand of washer recommends. Works fine. Also I use half fels naptha and half ivory as I think it makes my clothes softer. I haven't tried zote. Another thing I've been reading is to use sals suds in the recipe. I have yet to try that but always room for improvement.
Dumb question, thinking of trying this- do you shave both bars into the tub, 1:1? And about how much total, for a medium tub?
I make the liquid soap. I use half a bar of naptha and half a bar if ivory. That makes 5 gallons.
Thanks!
I’ve never tried this, but my skin is very sensitive. I only use tide. I wait till it’s on sale before I purchase it.
My washer works the same way and I hate it. I just stuck something in the lock area so it thinks the lid is down when it is not.
It is annoying for sure!
We stumbled across fels naphtha in Walmart, of all places. I grabbed a bar just to see what it has now, as surely it couldn't still contain naphthalene, right? Right, it doesn't, but still looks like a decent cleansing agent.
We started stocking up on anything scent-free as it came on sale, but I noticed the powder stuff just isn't on the shelves any more. Borax showed up and I grabbed two little boxes, and baking soda large bags from the pool supplies section. We pick up essential oils when we can catch them on special too. (Got dragged into a bin store, and got very surprised; found oils and elderberry syrup...)
We didn't find F-N at Walmart at all. We had to get Zote. I will keep an eye out for all that stuff now.
I've never heard of Zote until this thread, will look into it. Also, not sure how things are in your area, of your comfort zone, but sometimes Hispanic markets will have old school things. They definitely have lies of herbs and spices cheaper than gringo marts...
Great idea!!! There are a lot of those around here.
Yes or no: Thinking for yourself is highly valuable.
Yes or no: "A Penny for your thoughts" is fair and true.
Yes or no: "Pennies from heaven" are divinely given.
Yes or no: Copper Pennies are valuable.
Yes or no: Copper is a precious metal.
Yes
That’s…not really a true or false statement. It’s an offering of a penny to hear what someone is thinking about.
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard the phrase Pennie’s from heaven…
They’re about as valuable as a penny
Somewhat
I believe full copper pennies (not coated) are significantly more valuable than a penny.
Copper is precious enough that thieves dig up the big lines to resell. And expensive enough that the utilities don't replace copper with more copper, but switch to fiber optic.
I have a 2 pint container full of copper pennies. I found them at my dad’s, and he was very particular about me keeping them in a specific location. So I’ve carried on that tradition. They’re just sitting there. Waiting for something.
What the FECK are all these balloons about!? I haven't been around recently. Any crazy theories?
About three days of distraction.
Answer of the Day:
A giant rabbit, wearing a waistcoat.
Who is the White Rabbit?
What was John Updike's favorite costume?
Kek
What is a FractalizingIron?
something easy, a giant bowl with sculpted fruit, or, of course, a giant chicken.
A miniature version of the MLK statue to be displayed directly next to the larger portion of MLK’s penis. Something that represents 1/10 of the product, for 1/10 of the purchase.
Large Penis = $10,000,000
Tiny Penis = $100,000
This would be to provide diversity and inclusion to the black community, as some black men DO have small penises. I mean it’s never been proven that all black man have large penises. I’m surprised no one else has pointed this out, and it’s causing division amongst the BLM movement. Everyone should be included.!
A giant sculpture of clay.
I dabble in art. Knowing me (and I do) this is a trick question: there's absolutely no way I'll know what I'll make until the art is made.
Probably a weakness as an artist. 😃
This makes perfect sense
