California city nearly eliminates homeless population with zero-tolerance policy on encampments
Coronado, California, has the lowest homeless population in the state. The mayor credited a no-encampment policy and housing resources in curbing the trend.
Don't let the SPLC get wind of this or they'll sue the city. It's happened before.
The TLDR.
He told the homeless “We can get you the help you need to be productive. Or you can GTFO of my city.”
Indian Wells, CA also doesn’t have a homeless problem. I wonder what they do... Oh yea, When they see them, they give them a choice, go with them to a shelter or pack your shit and leave.
Lived there many years ago. I remember it as mostly a laid back residential oasis separated by an expansive bridge, the Strand, which seclude it from the faster paced San Diego.
Beautiful area. I want to go there now.
I live close to Coronado , I go there often it is beautiful!
It CAN be done...

This is the way. It should be illegal (a public health nuisance) for people to live and defecate on the sidewalks. But decent shelter should be offered as an alternative.
Sounds good as an immediate solution, but not a long term one.
I could see this as pitting one city against another.
Or as one city taking care of its citizens, which is their job.
Oh yes! Just like what happened to this woman.

That was of course a terrible case of cops not believing this homeless person and thinking she is acting. Unfortunately these individuals make up stories when you try to move or confront them and was clearly the experience of these guys. I don't advocate for cops blindly as many are corrupt but I also have experience working with people with mental illness and they do a lot of acting to get what they want.
