There is no labor shortage, the level 3 workers (all people allowed to move containers) called off in protest over union disputes.
I have several family members who are Longshoremen, including some who are part of this protest.
EO 13818

This. I imagine they would have a labor shortage if most of them went down in a bust.
A worker shortage wouldn’t result in a complete halt. Work slowdown sure. But a Halt would either imply Union involvement. Or orders came down from up top.
hubby has a ship stuck in the Panama Canal now headed toward the Gulf, but stuck in the traffic snarl.
I have packages shipping in some containers over the next couple weeks, I'm going to be salty as fuck at California as everything I've ordered that comes through that port (e.g. from Japan) gets delayed for months at a time already.
A cynical person would say that this is waging war by controlling one of our main ports of entry.
I'm pretty cynical nowadays.
We all are. Hubby's ship is coming out of Korea I believe
Maybe FF bomb snuck in?
Maybe we could et Mr. Putin to test one of his shiny new hypersonic missiles on L.A,?
Good! Send all that Chiyanees stuff back where it came from. It’s junk anyway!
Dude. Taiwan Philippines Hong Kong Malaysia Japan India Cambodia there's a lot of stuff in there that needs to get through, and once the ships unload there's tons of stuff they need to take back
Is this the white hats?
Sort of, but not the way you think.
There are so many military / law enforcement / war ships off the CA coast today / right now it’s crazy. I posted a pic of 11 of them.
Not that a lot of these guys aren't highly skilled, but aren't these jobs paying mega-bucks relatively speaking for a blue collar job?
Seems there'd be plenty of people willing to fill any open slots, even in CA.
It's a protest. I have family part of the protest. The workers have been negotiating for months to change shit and the union heads have been dragging their feet. The level 3 workers (all people trained to move containers) called out of work to shut the port down. It's a protest over union disputes.
Thanks for the inside info.
I always chime in when the port gets mentioned... Like Biden saying he ordered the port to stay open all night through the holidays... They're always working all night. You think the busiest port on the planet gets closed because the sun goes down?
That's when I would have called out sick, just to FJB (kek)
Thanks for the info, pede
i remember Long Beach was backed up about a year ago. Nothing was being unloaded. At the time, I think CA was trying to shut down independent truckers. Then the story got memory-holed.
Well the port always backs up during holidays, especially after Chinese new year, before Christmas, etc...
The port itself was operating fine, but there was a massive trucker shortage. The truckers who take cans off the dock aren't Longshoremen, nor do they work for the port.
If I recall correctly, you're correct that the truck shortage was because CA was shutting down independant truckers with new arbitrary legislation regarding emissions.
Biden "ordering the port to stay open" was pure propaganda to garner praise from the ignorant masses who want to believe he's out there making important decisions and actually doing something useful. He wasn't and still isn't.
Don’t the Chinese own a huge portion of Port of Long Beach?
Until 2019. There was a merger that would end up with China instead of Hong Kong owning Long Beach. Trump forced them to sell.
