The shitty thing is that this was mostly election rhetoric getting out of control because it looked like Canada wasn't going to do this until Trudeau had to look tough and more extreme on COVID than the Conservative Party. He did this to try and wedge the People's Party voters from the Conservative base and succeeded.

There's no walking it back. They tripled down and acted more brutally than the Europeans and the down under people. To own the Conservatives. The same Conservatives who happily went along with all of it until they thought no one would be stupid enough to invoke war measures on peaceful civilian protestors after publicly blessing Black Lives Matter.
The Canadian government did all of it with a smile on their faces and there's no shortage of ignorant pieces of shit who enthusiastically support it. It runs so deep here that the public is going to be cheerleading it rather than be seen supporting the convoy. Because in Canada there's retroactive virtue taint or some shit. There's a stigma past, present, and future.
I was fired by an employer controlled by a Ministry. The original message from the Ministry to my employer was (as we were told) "You need to implement a vaccine policy".
My employer took that to mean that they needed to fire anyone that didn't get it, since that was what the media was telling them was happening.
Now the Ministry is saying "We never told anyone to fire anyone".
It's bullshit, and we know it, but it's a shift of blame towards the employers. Now just wondering when the heads of these companies will wake up and see what's going on, that the government has always been willing to throw them under that bus.
They forced their policy on government adjacent sectors and their own staff. Sorry, they abused their staff until they fell in line or went on unpaid leave rather than submit to an experimental medical intervention. Private employers were goaded into doing it but didn't have to so long as they could deal with the reputational risk of not doing it.
I'm sorry you ended up under an employer that followed the leader. The moral thing to do would be to file a grievance so that there's one more person burned by following our piece of shit government who might speak out against them or at least be more careful next time. I at least hope that the people thrown under the bus will evangelize against the government for the rest of their days instead of hating the victims having to sue them instead.
I lucked out with an employer who did don't ask don't tell along with heavy-handed temperature checks, distancing, and masking demanded by our provincial labour board. They saw the issue with the government having nothing in stone to forgive their liability and wouldn't take it on.
In theory, the rope is reusable... but I still prefer a firing squad with really bad marksmen. It may take them a while, but they would get the job done eventually.
