There's one problem with this analysis by Mr. Mungbeam.
The song is about adolescence and the narrator of the song is an adolescent himself.
Cypress Avenue is a real street in Belfast near where Van Morrison grew up. At the time he wrote the song, Van Morrison wasn't even in the UK. He moved to New York, then to Massachusetts.
Cypress Avenue is a street he would go to as adolescent. It was across the tracks. He grew up in a poor area and Cypress Avenue was nearby but a different world, where people had money and fancy houses. Cypress Avenue was a beautiful quiet tree-lined street that almost looks like a Morrison said he would go there to think as a kid.
What age was Van going there? Well he quotes All Shook Up by Elvis in the song. A song that came out in his early adolescence.
My tongue gets tied
Every time I try to speak
And my inside shakes just like a leaf on a tree
He also talks about being tongue-tied and not knowing what to say which is a classic almost universal feeling adolescents have. Cypress Avenue is unattainable world he's never seen before He see a girl he likes, but as a poor kid knows there's this gulf between them that will never be crosses....and he fantasizes she's his Lady in carriage with six white horses.
You might want to look into the lyrics of the song "My Sharona" by The Knack:
Ooh, my little pretty one, my pretty one
When you gonna give me some time, Sharona?
Ooh, you make my motor run, my motor run
Got it comin' off of the line, Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind
My, my, my, ay, ah, wooh!
M-m-m-my Sharona
I actually went to high school with someone who was married their senior year...I think in the 60's people often got married at 18 (or our parents in the 40's-50's) but I have to say some of this breaks my heart that there are lyrics showing that there could be relationships with older men and younger teens...the only thing that is a possibility is that they are singing these songs as if (say in the case of a teen) it is a teen boy...I mean sex isn't anything new for teens and it has probably been like that for a very long time...although it seems to be worse today...I was actually a fan of Van Morrison...

Pop music is a false mediation. It’s visible now, if not here, definitely elsewhere. (“Teacher, there are things, that I don’t want to learn.” The Beatles started out playing brothels in Germany at 15/16. Van Morrison’s dad was intel) It was always there. Be thankful and reminded to always keep your eyes up.
Ahhh, Tom Paine the troll... Are you Van Morrison? To say anything is absolute is certainly foolish.
I didn't say teenagers didn't drink cherry wine... I even mentioned the narrator possibly being a kid.
Although it's vague, I tend to lean towards it's taking a teens viewpoint. However, 14 is still 14. Still questionable lyrics to be singing at 24 or whatever Van Morrison was at the time.
Did you know that Georgia didn't raise their age of consent law minimum age until 1995? It was 14 until 1995 and Georgia was the last state to raise it above 14. They raised it all the way to 15... Then in 2005 they raised it to 16. They tried to raise it to 18 but the bill failed. Figures - looks like Georgia's lawmakers have been corrupt for a long time.
I don't know where Van Morrison was when he wrote that song but I was surprised we had a state with a 14yo age of consent for that long. I was also surprised that Washington State appears to have an age of consent of 21.

I think this link gives a good sense of what is going in the song https://www.songfacts.com/place/cyprus-avenue-belfast/cyprus-avenue
So adults can't write about their adolescence?
Are you allowing the possibility you might be wrong?
Why do you buy Mr. Mungbeam's explanation. Above all the others who wrote about this song or just listened to it and enjoyed it?
This is my point. If this guy is a pedo, you're seeing it through the lens of pedophile. That's a distorted lens
If I took a picture of my kids playing in the backyard, there's nothing wrong with that.
It might mean something completely different to a pedophile.
Never said it couldn't. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be.
Yes. I do like this song. And this off-base pedophile's distorted take on it never occurred to me.
she's only 17 - Kip Winger
now do ZZ Top - FRANCINE...she is my 13 yr old beauty queen. And I Love her - she's all that I need.....

okay.........here goes............
The word "Domino" is code.
Take a guess after reading the lyrics again.
Speaking of dominos, wondering how closely he and Mr. Mojo Risin might be related

Was. But yeah, I agree.

Yes you are correct...truth is truth...
It depends on if the narrator is also a kid .... But then he's drinking cherry wine... So yeah, no.
Not s great song. Right up there with Christine Sixteen
The narrator is absolutely a kid.
If you think teenagers didn't drink cherry wine in Northern Ireland in the 1950's I don't know what to tell you.
Ahhh, Tom Paine the troll... Are you Van Morrison? To say anything is absolute is certainly foolish.

Pseudointellectuals are easy to spot.
I've seen enough of his posts to see what he's doing.
Plus he appears to be a YUGE Van Morrison fan. 😂
From what I can tell, he has not performed it since the late 70s
Also, if you look at his songwriting SINCE that time, you may (as I do) find that Van has NOT written anything about underage sexual interaction.
In fact, since the early 1980s, much of his work has been focused on spiritual enlightenment and pointing out corruption in our modern society.
I'm going to give him a pass on this accusation unless more evidence is brought.
I know lots of teens that drank growing up...
Me too. But still, he's talking about a 14 year old girl and the song appears on his album when he's 23.
I honestly don't think he's a pedo to be clear, but to quote Michael Bluth "There's gotta be a better way to say that"
Well......she was just seventeen.
You know what I mean.
I mean c'mon.
But the way she looked.....was way beyond statutory limitations. __ Saul McCartney/Juan Limone

Yeah - I wonder if that is part of why U-dub and Wazoo suck so bad on college football?
Stray Cat Blues anyone? Sir Mick is a pedo, if not why was he knighted?
In her majesty's secret satanic service.
