.50 cal rifles are legal though. With the proper back-ground checks you're good to go. Some people like shooting .50 cals. You just need the shooting range to do it.
Perhaps this is where the border crisis is heading. A shootout on the Mexican border, armed Americans against terrorists. It would show why we need to secure the border and why the 2nd Amendment is so important.
The paperwork would only take that long if the weapon was subject to the National Firearms Act (NFA). NFA weapons are usually things like suppressors/silencers, machine guns/automatics, short-barreled weapons, and "Any other Weapons (AOWs)" - like a cane or cigarette lighter gun, or grenades.
Now - this depends on which state you are in. 3 states and I believe DC banned .50 caliber rifles. In CA they banned the sale (which caused Barret to stop selling to and fixing CA government guns, but if you had one you could register it (which could take a year).
I have heard that getting an NFA weapon (and the accompanying $200 tax stamp) is pushing 18 months now, but that is probably because the Biden administration wants to slow it way down.
Friend of mine has an FFL and he said when he started thinking about getting a suppressor for a .223/5.56 AR it was taking people 60-90 days. When he finally pulled the trigger on getting his it took him 9 months, and that was 2 years ago so it's untelling how long it would take now.
Because we are big, have a lot of FFLs and gun stores, there are high-caliber weapon available, and we even have a lot of 1000 yard ranges so it would be easy to get the weapons and practice without drawing attention. If I had the cash to buy one I could find one at a store somewhere, do the online gun form, and take it home in under 30 minutes depending on how busy the store is. The last gun I bought at a sporting goods store took about 15 minutes.
The mirror of this is very interesting. Percentages. If they use the tactic we seen in Israel but with armed citizens. To keep a higher percentage the enemy would need higher caliber.
This higher caliber would penetrate most homes and for those homes the people inside would be less likely to take cover for a time.
My opinion is they want to spark a fire to allow these 3 letter agencies to have control and this could possibly work.
After the onslaught happens the citizens will be told to hand in their weapons for safety. —that is what I hope would never work.
Imagaine the pebble (the rock idiot dude) coming in after people are attacked and claiming he got this. Let him be the one to defeat the enemy. The people will be either yes or no to the awesomeness of the pebble (3 letter agency).
For the protection of the situation the pebble would ask the people to temporarily turn in their weapons so no one on the pebbles team will be hurt while this happens.
The governor will take away the 2A for this.
Then we will see the pebble turn into his dream.
In the chaos of this with what I have seen of late it is possible. I am no body though. What I do know is the msm and government is stacked against the people who pay taxes.
And this ladies and gents is why civilians should have weapons larger than a handgun for self defense. I pray I'm never in that situation but if shit hits the fan I'd rather not be helpless
Folks, shit is getting real!
Why would they need a FFL when our own government gives them weapons for free.
Yeah bc a registered FFL is where every drug dealer goes to buy their illegal fire arms for committing crimes.
Or devil's advocate here ;) does the ATF not want law abiding American's to have real fire power when SHTF?
Their narrative is always intended to drive a reaction.
My first reaction is to restrict purchases.
Cartels don't buy registered guns.
What would the purpose of restricting purchases be if the Cartels would not be effected?
That's where the straw purchase comes into play.
Well, that is a bit concerning..

Longest range I have easy access to is 100 yards otherwise that would be my next buy. As soon as I get a plan for where to play with it though....

Cartels do not need more weapons, Obama and Holder gave the cartels 2000 AK-47 with Fast and Furious
Head on a swivel, waistband lined with pistols.
Almost no houses would provide protection for such weapons, unless you can be totally out of the line of fire in a basement.
I was told this is very strange by a gun store owner. The paperwork takes 18 months right now.
So you may be right.
Paperwork for what?

I have a couple of suppressors, took me a year to get each one.
So only in Texas? Doesn’t make logical sense. Why not any other states?

Well we could see the same type of attacks in the US - especially an invasion on our border.

The ATF should be handing out weapons to every American citizen.
