Serious question here. Should the slide be back into firing position with the operator's hand relaxed with the spent casing so close to the weapon? Methinks not. No visible smoke, either. Not to mention every video that I've found with a quick search DOES NOT show him firing the weapon or the still image shown here. Just him waving the gun about and a shot of the body in the road. 🤔
I'm not seeing the relaxation everyone is mentioning; but it's moot because the COMPLETE lack of smoke and the gun's position showing no hint of being in recoil, even with a one-handed grip and the casing still right there, are sus AF.
Visible smoke not a possibility. First, it is called smokeless powder for a reason. Second, it is being ejected from the barrel at the speed of the bullet (~1000 feet per second), or even faster from rapid expansion. The case is moving much slower than the bullet. When shooting, it is common to be aware of the case motion (sometimes it hits you in the forehead). I have seldom been aware of smoke from an immediate shot.
You have an imaginary conception of what the proper shooting stance should be, and there is nothing about his stance that is contrary to proper shooting posture. Relaxed is a good way to be. Being tensed up leads to a poor shot.
The cameraman was lucky to get the shot, but being lucky does not mean impossible.

Moreover the pistol is in full battery, no trace of movement on the slide. It still should be moving given the location of the casing. Also there is no sign of recoil induced hand movement or barrel rise.
The pistol has completed its ejection cycle and is BACK in battery. The shell casing didn't get in mid air all by itself; it was ejected. There can never be a "trace of movement on the slide" when being in battery, which is stationary. The flight of the casing is SLOW compared to slide movement in action. With good technique, there should be no sign of "recoil induced hand movement." There is only barrel rise with muzzle flip, but that would be visible in this photo only if the shooter "limp-wristed" the shot, which is easy to prevent. The usual way of absorbing such motions is for the forearm as a whole to rise, and there is no way of telling whether it did or not.
Given the previous comment was that the casing was not blurred from movement, the casing would have been moving slower than the slide and muzxel flip as the casing approached apogee. So if The casing should be blurred then so would the slide and muzzle.
But if, as the previous anon was implying, the casing was photoshopped in, there would be no motion blur of the casing, slide or muzzle.
But, as I have been explaining, the slide recoiled and returned before the casing reached that point in its trajectory. There was never any reason for the casing to be blurred, as the "exposure time" on the camera was fast enough. The idea that it was photoshopped is pure, groundless speculation. Particularly since the whole thing was captured as a video that had continuity through the motions.
Look, to give you some idea of how fast the recoil cycle of a semi-automatic pistol really is, I can refer you to the Glock 18 pistol, which is designed to be fully-automatic. No delay between firing cycles. The firing rate is about 1200 rounds per minute, or 20 rounds per second. This means the complete cycle from firing, recoiling, and rechambering is 0.05 second. That would be the same for a semi-auto pistol, only the shooter cannot possibly pull the trigger that fast. That's 50 milliseconds. The average blink of an eye is from 100 to 400 milliseconds. If you blink, you've missed it.
How fast is the casing being ejected? They seldom are ejected any higher than 3 feet. That would mean an ejection velocity of about 10 feet/second. The bullet is traveling 100 times faster. Or compare the difference in speed between an automobile traveling at 100 mph and a pedestrian walking at 1 mph (a brisk walk is 4 mph). Being able to photograph the casing is no big deal. Being able to photograph the recoil motions mean you have to choose the taking of your photo to within 50 milliseconds.
This is all facts and physics. I don't propose to argue about it.

Lots of photos of ejected shells in the gun magazines. I've never seen a blurred one. The camera is fast enough to capture that.

What's your point? The slide is returning. The shell is only about half as distant as the one in the original post, which means that would have been enough time in the OP for the slide to close.
I happen to know how these things work. And I have read decades worth of gun magazines with their photos of shell casings in flight. You are straining at a gnat. Upon closer examination, it turns out that the shell image is slightly out of focus, being closer to the camera. There is no sideways smear that would be due to motion.
By the way, I believe my second quote was in regard to the shooter's expression.
You clearly don't know what you are talking about, because (1) there wouldn't be visible smoke (the discharge departed the muzzle at the rate of 1000 feet/second), (2) you can't tell the difference between relaxed or unrelaxed, but good technique requires being relaxed, (3) the shooter was point-shooting (not using sights) which is typical at close range if one is practiced with the weapon used, (4) brass is seen clearly in photography as a commonplace (read gun magazines to see examples), (5) with respect to timing, the slide has completed its cycle and is ready for the next shot (yes, it is damn near instantaneous), and (6) you don't know how many shots the cameraman took that were crummy, if he had a motorized shutter (there was a famous World War II photographer who explained that his technique was to simply take copious amounts of photos and sort them out afterward to find the choice shots); it also happens that people are in the right place at the right time. Being in the right place at the right time is NOT an impossibility. (The flip side, of course, was that the victim was in the wrong place at the wrong time.)

And you are so full of name-calling, but not one iota of refutation. The bullet is propelled from the pistol at a typical speed (for 9mm) of 1000 fps. It can't do that unless the gas behind it is also moving at the same speed, at high pressure. Once the bullet leaves the muzzle, the high-pressure gas actually expands and increases its velocity, but dissipates after traveling several feet.. I've read articles in the shooting press on the use of Schlieren photography to visualize the density field around the bullet, to draw conclusions about whether a boat-tailed bullet or a flat-based bullet will be affected by this expansion cloud behind it. (In my opinion, interpreting the photos, I didn't think their experimental setup was exact enough to draw any conclusions. Understanding Schlieren photographs is part of my training as an aerodynamicist.)
I've already mentioned I have fired at least 8 major pistol calibers, repeatedly, or at least enough to have preferences. I've fired semi-automatic pistols and revolvers, double-action and single-action triggers. You don't mention if you have even fired a .22. (Of course, if that's all you've fired, I would be embarrassed to say so.)

I do see what looks to be faint smoke just above the gun, although that would be VERY easy to Photoshop into the picture. If the picture was actually taken the moment the round is ejecting, you would expect there to be more smoke in front of the barrel of the gun. I can't say there is no smoke in the picture, but it sure doesn't look very realistic.
Just above the gun is totally clear. The background is blurry, but that is because it is out of focus.
The action of a semi-automatic pistol is FAST. Just because the camera did not catch it does not mean it did not happen. And there is no way the case could have been ejected without the action of the slide. There is no indication the operator's hand is "relaxed." It looks to have a firm grip on the weapon, which is all you need. The reason modern gunpowder is called "smokeless powder" is because (wait for it) there is little visible smoke. And what there might have been would have been blown out of the camera field of view. And just because you couldn't find this photo means only---that you couldn't find this photo.
I've shot pistols of all kinds over the years. Don't go down the imaginary trail of things you don't know about.

No visible smoke. it seems to me you haven't done any shooting or have seen any pistols actually being fired. Under the right circumstances you might be able to see a bit of flame at the muzzle, but that is usually in night conditions.
The brass shell didn't get up in the air because pixies carried it. That is the typical trajectory of an ejected shell...and it doesn't happen unless the shell is ejected...which doesn't happen unless the gun is fired. You simply have no idea how fast all this action is. If the muzzle velocity is ~1000 fps and the barrel length is ~4 inches, the transit time is something like 0.3 milliseconds. Is that a typical camera speed?
That's because it is not obvious---because it is not fake. What is fake is the idea that you can tell the difference. Frankly, all you guys ride in on your imagination and expectation of what you should see, without any real exposure to what these things look like in reality.

I don't glorify killing others. Everything I have studied about Jesus & his potential to visit other sheep shows that he has zero desire for us to make war/she'd blood of our fellow man. We are justified in self defense IMO, though I can't say this was self defense.

It's clear you have not been trained to shoot. You do so with a relaxed hand, though with a grip firm enough to keep the pistol under control. What do you expect to see? A clenched fist? Impossible to shoot straight. Bulging arteries? Get serious. And yes, the slide operates VERY FAST. When shooting, it is so fast you only notice the instant of recoil and the pistol can shoot again as quickly as you can pull the trigger. There is generally no visible smoke ("smokeless" powder, remember?).
That's not really the look I expect to see, from someone shooting someone.

Glad to oblige. The shell was ejected to the right of the pistol. The pistol was held out in front of the guy. By being parallel with the shadow of the eyeglasses, the shadow of the shell casing should go downward diagonally just in front of that guy's chest and to the left of his forearm.
It's easy when you know how to recognize reality.

I want to take a few minutes to talk about this. This happened in my country, Panama. It's going to be a bit long, so I apologize in advance.
The media is saying this is an eco protest. In a way, it is. But that is not the whole reason for the protests. I don't agree with blocking traffic as it affects the people who have nothing to do with this issue, me included.
But what is happening right now in Panama has a deeper side, one that is not talked about in the media. Minera Panama, the mining company who got the contract is a subsidiary of First Quantum Minerals, a mining company based in Canada.
During the pandemic, the Panamanian government took massive loans from the world bank. Here is an article published on their website about it. And here is another one about another massive loan.
As you all know, the way the world bank operates is they give these loans to countries, and when the country can't pay them back they have a chat with the president and force them to sell the countries resources to companies they own, according to John Perkins.
This is where the mining contract comes in. Our president signed a 20 year contract that can be extended for another 20 years where they can do all the mining they want in Panama. Also, the president also signed a law that forbids any new mining contracts with any other company, giving exclusive mining rights to First Quantum Minerals.
If you check this website and scroll down to the shareholders list, you will find two well know investment firms among them: Vanguard and Blackrock.
So, some people are protesting against the mining contract because of the environment, but most people don't want this because we are aware that the country resources are being sold cheap to the world bank. If you read some of the signs people carry, you will see things like "Panama is not for sale", and "We will defend our country". I believe that one of the things Q told us is to be patriots. I don't live in the USA, but I'm old enough to know that the world bank and their associates are doing this all over the world, so we all should be patriots and fight against the world bank and the elites from taking over everything.
That is what the protests are mostly about. I can also understand that people would be upset with traffic blockades, it upsets me too. But this guy got off his car, walked up to the protestors and tried to talk them into letting him go through, and he pulled out a gun when they said no. He has double nationality, he has a Panamanian citizenship, and according to it he was born in Colon, Panama.
I have the videos of what happened, but I don't know how to upload them here. The picture where you see the casing flying was taken from a video that was recorded by one of the people who were there that day. I upload them to a temporary host site. This is the one with the angle from the picture. And this is the one where he shots one of the protesters. As you can see, the old man was not in any danger, and nobody was threatening him. One of the people he killed was a teacher. But videos are cut short, sorry. That is the way they were sent to me, and I can't say I know what happened before he fired.
Again, I don't agree with blocking traffic. But I also disagree with somebody pulling out a gun and shooting somebody like this. I hope this old man dies in a prison cell.

He's aiming, but not using the sights. (You can see that his line of sight is parallel to the barrel axis.) This used to be a feature of sharpshooting demonstrations. If the distance is not too far, it is effective. When the action is fast, do you think you have time to draw a steady bead and fire like you are at a shooting range?
Open a gun magazine. See the photos of shells being ejected. The timing of the photo is probably from the received sound of the gunshot. There is no "look" that one has when shooting a weapon.
It is real. You, on the other hand, want it to be unreal. I happen to have direct personal experience that confirms the photograph, and I don't back away from it. You happen to have a collection of cartoon concepts of what you "expect" from your imagination. So, the paranoia kicks in and you insult me and declare ME to be fake.
