Looks like a photo from a Trump rally
So yeah...many of us ARE this passionate about things that matter
That said, looking down one's nose at athletic competition and those spectators who use it to enjoy a brief respite from the stress and horrific atrocities of the daily world seems kind of...well, smug, short-sighted and self-important IMHO...many sports fans are also proud Trump supporters and anons.
Those who devote mental energy to hating sports and sports fans would do well to get over themselves.
No doubt they'll self-identify using the downvote arrow LOL
I think you misunderstand the point or maybe just do not want to understand it. being a fan (fanatic) about sports is ok, but the criticism is towards the majority that do not pay attention to the more important things in life because they think or feel that the sport is their life. I could be wrong. it is a matter of opinion and perspective.
Can you show me the statistics pointing out the majority of which you speak? Or is it just some feeling you have?
Slamming people who still like to watch sports and then painting them with a broad brush as ignorant and uncaring, is no different than what the leftists do. Its repugnant. We cant criticize hypocrites if we are hypocrites ourselves.
I would have to say my opinion is more based on anecdotal experience, since most of the people I know that are rabid sports fans tell me they do not follow politics yet usually have very strong leftist opinions when they do express anything politically. I guess I will have to search for any sort of study that might be done.

And why would massive Fuck Joe Biden chants have erupted over stadiums and arenas across America among these rabid sports fans with very strong leftist opinions? Where did the Lets Go Brandon meme start? Oh yea, with sports fans. Stupid take dude. Reassess. Sports fans tend to be redneck Patriots with God and Guns not some elite effeminate leftist. Sports fans are Obamas bitter clingers. You let your personal prejudice get in the way of logic and discernment.
And FTR I do not watch any sports.
You tell him, LongTime! Sports harder!!!
I understand the point. Countering the point, having an alternate perspective or sharing another way to view it does not indicate or equate to lack of understanding.
In this case the point is some sports fans take it to extremes and don't pay enough attention to, or don't get as emotionally involved in, politics as they do in sports.
My counterpoint is that literally everything gets taken to extremes at times by someone or other; and that sports fans are using sports to involve their mind the game strategy, player attributes, the beauty of the human body in motion, etc., as a means of ESCAPE from the constant onslaught of stress and misery that is politics.
Also athletics elevates the human spirit above our ancestral drive to fight and kill rival tribes on the battlefield; and it sublimates those skills and competitive urges into a non-lethal game enjoyable to themselves and spectators. That is a mental, spiritual, and psychological good IMHO.
Likewise.
Well said.
I followed the NBA for over 25 years, starting in 1993.
I quit when they went woke.
It's okay to have fun with sports. But know who you're supporting with your time and money. Surely there are more based ways to enjoy athletic competition.
There is much more to it than just 'enjoying a hobby'
there is nothing wrong going to a sports game for a night out with your friends. But if you cant see the other issues with peoples relationship with it, than thats another thing you should consider spending time thinking about.
I find spectator sports painfully boring, but there's also something to be said for the value to community cohesion, and the unity between disparate communities brought by amicable rivalry.
That being said, a lot of people do take it too far, and that's not good either...
Bread and circuses.."Are you not entertained???" Maximus Decimus Meridius enters the chat
i can't believe these assholes have a hobby on the weekend /s
It's socially acceptable to be like this about things that don't matter at all.
I know a shit load of men my age, and I'm damned near seventy, that still act like fucking children over some sports team and their asshole heroes.
It makes me sick to see it.
Gooooooo!!! "Pepes!"
The moment you realize weather is the 2nd most accurate msm news.
I personally think that sports can be a great thing to watch to take our minds off of other things. It used to be that sports were apolitical, which they are not anymore. Those were some good old days.
One of the ways to keep our batteries charged is to do things that take our minds off of the most serious things in life. We have some damn serious things to worry about right now.
Some people watch sports, others garden, walk, design, build, create, bake, and do things that basically take their minds off of stresses. I am perfectly fine with that. And it's just my anonymous opinion anyways, but I feel we should all do what works best for us and our loved ones.
The bottom line is we all need to be healthy and ready to go for the days/(2 moar) weeks/years ahead. Mental, physical, and spiritual health will be essential to keep on going.
I love to turn the energy on when needed, but I can't do it 100% of the time.

There are quite a few rivalry games this weekend, and all are distractions.
NFL:
College football:
NBA:
NHL: Toronto at Detroit (Friday)
Thankfully we have President Trump delivering a speech tomorrow in Dodge City, Iowa. That is way more important than the sportsball listed above.
I'm thankful I could not even create that list lol
I just used the Yahoo scoreboard in their sports section.
This is just the weekend including Thursday night's NFL game.
Unless it one of my grand kids playin, don't care about sports.
