COMING SOON: Possible 'balancing' solution to the Daily Chat vs "Shower Thought" posts. Let's experiment with making Daily Chat a 'Weekly Chat'? Hopefully frogs can expect better, more high-quality engagement that will increase visibility of legitimate questions/research requests, etc. Cool?

It's the long-time users who should know best how GAW is moderated. Being surprised or disappointed when these well-known policies are applied to them is illogical. What is your definition of 'policies'?
We don't issue 3-day bans for first offense/honest mistakes. We apply this policy in a sensibly selective way; if the frog is new and doesn't have a lot of usernotes, we'll do exactly what you said—we'll nicely ask them to move it to daily chat. But if they're long time anons with solid reputations but still somehow for some reason can't grok what they absolutely 100% know are the long-time rules or policy around here, we just give 1-day vacations, with this well-intentioned note:
It's unreal how many frogs can't seem to grok this basic policy. As it is, we still allow a LOT of text-based posts. We only apply this rule to the most eggregiously low-quality, low-effort posts.
Hopefully this new "Weekly Chat" idea will mitigate this.
I got a one day ban WITHOUT being "nicely" asked to move my post. Then got a bullshit sarcastic comeback when I challenged it....
My "egregiously low-quality, low effort posts" have comments from other members which tells me that my post are engaging someone...
Yeah shouldn't "egregiously low-quality, low effort posts" just fall off naturally by no one upvoting?
I guess it could potentially clog up "New", but that would only be if the person is making tons of said posts, in which case go ahead and do the ban.
But I don't have to moderate anything, so it's prob easy for me to criticize
As a user who posts original bullet point observations that create near universal consensus, I agree with you. Having them dismissed as 'shower thoughts' is insulting and counterproductive. Being banned for the same style I've employed since day one is frustrating. Recently, I had similiar posts get instant traction (20 upvotes in 10 minutes) only to have them deleted and a 3 day ban issued.

Can't you just post the topics in general chat. Is there a reason why you rather have them be there own post
Yes. Comments that belong in daily chat. The point here is this: the mods feel that MORE people deserve to see the engagement that reached a few frogs. It's not (just) that we don't want "shower thought" posts clogging up /NEW, it's that we want MORE frogs to see the engagement that your thinking resonated with.
If you could please choose to see it that way, that would be great. But, you don't. And this is why the mods just mod the way they do. We take your feedback, we really do integrate it, but, if you don't get that we're trying to AMPLIFY your thinking, then, fine, we just default back to doing what we know works. We're focused on being as consistent as possible, and we're going to continue to go from there.
"Low quality and low effort" is entirely subjective. Just because a post doesn't appeal to a mod doesn't mean that others won't be interested in it.
The attitude towards posts and bans here is just all over the place. Mods complain that people don't post enough, but then complain that there are too many "low effort and low quality" posts. It just feels like you view people here as sources of free labor to churn out material to boost GAWs rankings.
And it's a bit nutty to constantly ban people for minor infractions, or because they believe differently than you and then complain that there aren't enough people making posts or interacting in the comments. If you want more activity on the forum, maybe lay off banning people for a bit.
I completely understand the need for mods. No one wants to have to wade through dozens of posts about cures for Erectile Dysfunction. But perhaps the mods should do some self-reflection and be more mindful if they're banning someone for the good of the forum or if it's because they personally disagree with the post.
No. It isn't. Volunteer to be a mod here. You'll start on the deport queue. And in 6 months, you'll basically be transformed into CatsFive, and you will also find yourself banishing LOW EFFORT, LOW QUALITY, LOW INFO posts to the land of wind and ghosts, like we do.
This thread is about changes to Daily Chat, not about moderating, by the way.
Yes. It is. But keep ignoring the feedback you're getting. And continue to watch the forum die.
Says the account who has contributed absolutely nothing to this forum. Kek
Fine. Great. Let it die. YOU HAVE NO POSTS. If you decide to leave, WHO WOULD NOTICE?
EDIT: Banned this user for this faggotry, and got this diamond gem in reply:
And, boom, this is why we mod GAW the way we do. Establish a post history. Because the levels of respect you receive from the mod team is directly proportionate to what you are willing to post, and then, by your comments, how you are willing to defend it.
As an Irish Frog who has just come off a 24 hour GAW ban for a most egregious low-quality, low-effort shower thought - I agree a slap up the noggin is warranted. I was guilty of a low effort post, but I need to be honest. I was not aware that was the purpose of Daily/Weekly Chat. Now I do. If I could offer a suggestion is that you say please move said post into Daily/Weekly Chat in the Notice of Low Effort. If said frog fails to do so then off to jail for 24 hrs. With that said all I had to do was go read the rules, posted I read the rules and Mods said they would give me a get out of jail free card. I frogged up and took the punishment - poured a cocktail and lit a cigar and enjoyed some digital warrior R&R.
Actually, it was your post (I gave you that 1-day reminder; we've had lots of stickies and other comms about this policy, etc) that got the mods thinking. Mods don't like giving vacations out, believe it or not. We pay for those flights out of our own pocket.
Wow, learning so much. Have some dings in the armor over the years with low effort posts. Thanks for all you do keep this place “the best place on the interweb!” Can’t wait till the award ceremony that passes out Digital Warrior Medals - be amazing to see our guys get some! ☘️
I can see your thinking here, Cats, reading through this thread. You efforts are appreciated. But, at the risk of seeming to be either overly pedantic (pretty easy with me) or just a dumbass, can I get a confirmation that the
"Daily Chat" you are referring to is in fact General Chat, which BB posts each day. I mean, I thought that would be bloody obvious, but I only see consistent reference to a "Daily Chat" (using capitals, which is the standard way of indicating an actual proper noun, aka NAME) in this thread and the previous one.
If you can put this to bed for me finally, I'll leave it and let the mayhem continue as is.
The number of "shower thoughts" I've been seeing on here lately has been a bit ridiculous.
Most of the time they're great conversation starters. But they just don't belong as their own posts. They belong in Daily Chat. The mods here are hoping that this change will get these shower thought conversation starters the attention they deserve.
And they make those of us with just regular showers that don't ever give any inspiration feel better.
True!
I used to pride myself in being able to build the toy in the cereal box without reading the directions. I know my basic rights and hate to read the instructions to this day. But I’m wrong. I get that too. I’ve been that frog many times.
