Canadian here who worked in a grocery store and a family owned produce shop that was 90% locally sourced. Two points : First, ( as commented below ) strawberry season is over not long after summer ends in Canada. Second, organic is always more expensive. No real strangeness here to be honest.

To be fair it is not berry season anywhere near Canada and the fruit has to be imported.

I live in Canada (but am American) and they're not even close to that price where I live. Remember, in land mass, Canada is twice as big as the US. What's true on the east coast of either country, is not necessarily true on the west coast of these two countries. I'm guessing that price, aside from being organic, is in the Yukon, NWT etc. where things must be flown in. Alaska will be facing the same type of inflation, especially remote, fly in villages. So let's look at the whole picture, no pun intended, not just a photo!
Mega grocery chains take the opportunity to gouge the shit out of the consumer. The shame is that most of the produce will go rotten.and the chains will have to lower their prices. Short term thinking by stupid companies. I, like most consumers will shop elsewhere and they will have to lower their prices to earn the trust of the consumer. $6.97 CAD a pound at Walmart.ca versus $4.12 USD a pound at Walmart.com based on the locations that got picked when I did it.
However $4.12 USD is $5.56 CAD. So about 25% more expensive before taxes. Having lived in Canada for a number of years that's roughly what I'd expect. The interesting thing to me is when I lived there the Canadian dollar was at parity with the US dollar and everything was still 30% more expensive than in the US.

This is a classic case of showing how fast food places are subsidized and fresh food is not. You could probably get a large meal from the place of the Golden Arches for $13. Does it beg the question as to why they want you to eat processed crap instead of fresh fruits? I would say depop is not just by the clot shot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not the beginning of Winter over in Canada? Those strawbs were either grown in an overheated hot-house, or they have been flown from Australia or New Zealand.
All that stuff costs money. And yes, oil is used to transport or heat glass-houses - So, what you are really complaining about is: oil-prices.
Those are Driscoll's strawberries and they were grown in California.
Strawberries can be planted and harvested in Oxnard, CA pretty much year round. It is one of Driscoll's main hubs in California.
Driscoll's Central Mexico hub is distributed to Arizona, Texas and Florida. I doubt they're reaching Canada.
I am looking at Driscoll's list of growing regions they have posted on their website. Not sure if it's a Brave browser thing, but it only loads up as a background; the information chart appears once I scroll down.
In Oxnard, CA it is strawberry season every month of the year except July and August.
