For me even though my company has different tiers and usually when I see an end user they will be very angry with telecom because it might be a month later before they get to me.
I will do whatever it takes to get things fixed for the customer regardless of how unhappy they are.
We cannot fix everything. But when we can fix what we can, that is a lot.
During my team meetings they'd often speak harshly about conservatives and q supporters, managers included. There was only one other person in my office that I knew was a 'conservative in hiding' like myself and I only knew about him from the 'no vaccine' internal group. But otherwise how freely you could bash conservatives, Trump supporters, q supporters without consequence really highlighted how they only hired the indoctrinated.
Great news in terms of the effectiveness of the culture war.
However, there is still a lingering feeling of unease with all of these layoffs and it speaks to a greater problem: We are going to have many people who have greater problems getting employed because there aren't enough jobs, there are racial and sexual quotas for what jobs remain, and manufacturing is still by and large abroad in Asian countries like China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam.
The current situation long term sets us spiraling towards the UBI agenda, and I hope people see it.
The thing is, a good "engineer" can use A.I. tools to do the work of 10 diversity hire average coders. Maybe they fired all the low hanging fruit and just keep the good ones who can still do the work without all the tier 1 people reviewing the code as you can run it though A.I. in a few passes to accomplish the same at a rate 100x faster.
My industry is laying off too, but doing it sneakily. Forced Return To Office even for employees that were remote 10+ years started it, and anyone who doesn't come in is abandoning their job so no severance pay or bad press for the company.
And now I know they're finishing up performance reviews, and will most likely fire the lowest performers to reach whatever goal they have that isn't met by RTO attrition.
Of course I'm sure DEI will be a big consideration

True. Though if the layoffs are spread throughout their subsidiaries. Then both the official statement and Reddit post can be true.
As at least on paper. Only a few hundred directly employed google staff got layed off. The rest were “technically” employed by subsidiaries and had different logos on their uniform. Even if for all intents and purposes they were essentially Google employees.
It’s the kinda corporate double speak that makes bad news look much better to shareholders.
I can't imagine any operation that needs 10K engineers to operate. Let alone still operating after letting go 10k engineers. What in the hell do they do? How are that many engineers even manageable in any way to be productive? Reminds me of Elon letting go 90% of Twitters entire workforce and still able to add new features. These companies have to be making money from unknown sources and just grew from bloat. Maybe those sources have dried up?
