What states/counties don’t allow you to vote for different parties during the primaries?
🧐 Research Wanted 🤔
I can’t get a good google search and swear there were areas that restricted your primary to the registerd party only
Pa is closed primaries
Thank you! Closed primaries is what I was looking for!
Oklahoma has closed primaries, like it should be.
You would need to change your party several months in advance. IIRC

That's a great link, I hope all states have that info like that.
According to the GPTs . . .
In the United States, primary elections are held by political parties to select their candidates for the upcoming general elections. There are different types of primaries:
Closed Primaries: Only voters registered with a given party can vote in that party's primary.
Open Primaries: Voters can choose on election day which party's primary they want to participate in, regardless of their registered party affiliation.
Semi-Closed Primaries: Unaffiliated voters can participate in the primary of the party of their choice, but voters who are registered with a party may only vote in that party's primary.
Top-Two Primaries: All candidates appear on the same ballot, regardless of party, and all voters can vote for any candidate; the top two finishers then move on to the general election.
States with closed primaries do not allow you to vote for different parties during the primaries. As of my last update in April 2023, examples of states with closed primaries included:
Arizona (although independents may choose which primary to vote in)
Delaware
Florida
Kansas (for Republicans; Democrats have semi-closed)
Kentucky
Maine (for Republicans; Democrats have semi-closed)
Nevada
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Maryland's primaries (both parties) are closed. Independent voters cannot vote during the primaries. It's irritating because there are almost as many unaffiliated voters as there are GOP voters in MD, hence the reason our state can claim it's 2-to-1 Democrat. Just pick a side and have some say in the process.
Thank you for posting this!

This shows how the corruption starts at the primaries. What a shit show.
Florida votes as registered. The liars and cheating demonrats will overwhelm your position with cheating it its all open. Look at the votes Nikki got in New Hampshire. Probably no Republicans voted to mess them up; perhaps they should? 🤷♀️🤷♀️
NY has closed primaries. I used to live there.
Not in NC. They have open primaries here. You can vote in the primaries if you’re an Independent. You can choose the primary you want to vote in. In NC If you are a registered Democrat and want to vote in the Republican primary during early voting and on Election day you can still do so but you will be given a provisional ballot.
Mississippi is an open primary state!
In my State, our Senators are chosen in the Republican open primary. D's don't get votes in the general election. So, all the Dims vote RINO in the primaries -- and that's what we get. Senator's Milk and Toast,
It used to be that way here in oklahoma with the democrate primary being the election. Many races didn't even have a republican on the ballot.
It took us 10 years, but we fixed it in a big way.
Idaho is closed primary for the GOP only. The dems will take any and all voters. Ha.
Did that change recently? I thought Idaho was an open primary state.
2012 was the first year of closed primary for the GOP. Democrats are still trying to change it back so that they can influence Republican candidates, even though they say they do not do that. Sorry for the npr link, but here is an article from back in the day of change if you are interested.

Excellent. Thanks for the info. That helps.
Think you'd have to look it up state by state. CA for example, has top-two for state-run elections (like the governor) but closed primaries for the US presidency.
And then you have caucus states, which aren't primaries which is better.
The CA Republican party (joined by Peace & Freedom and Green parties iirc) actually sued the state and won, because the state wanted open primaries. The winning counter argument was freedom of association under the 1st amendment.
California is open. We can vote for anyone, even though the DemoLibs always win. Sooo we really aren’t that open. Kek!
Why in tarnation are you still in Commiefornia? 😲
Very good question my old friend, since I’m retired myself. My whole family on both sides of my marriage live here. My parents and wife’s parents live in my town. My brother lives in central Cali, and my wife’s sisters/kids cousins live in the Bay Area. So I’m/we are only here still so the grandparents can be close to some grandkids. And…my wife has a pretty good job with very good benefits here. So there is that too.
Lastly we do live in the far northern part of Cali, surrounded by a thick sea of red counties and people. The county I live in along with all the surrounding ones are in legal process of forming a new State also. It might be interesting living in even more history making than what’s going on Nationally haha.
That’s the short of it my friend. God bless you.
Florida is it closed primary state
