WTF! My last power bill from good ole Duke Energy was $318.00 for A MONTH! Others have seen theirs increase up to $700.00 and above. The little town nearby has water bills that high. Clown world for sure
Hahaha, my California PG&E Power Bill is $6000 per year. That’s $500 per month on AVERAGE. During summer, if the don’t cut the power, my AC can drive my monthly bill up over $900.
These rate hikes are going to cause a lot more pissed off people to switch sides.
Peeps need to take it out in the ballot box. Can’t have it both ways. I have a winter home in Southern California and utilities are expensive. But we don’t use heat or AC over half the year but pay up the nose when we use AC. It got better this year when we insulated during a remodel. California government is fucked up, but the people here either accept corrupt government or accept election cheating.
California is one of the few places where home solar makes a lot of sense. You should look into it. You have seasonal homes and can remodel them I’m presuming you can afford solar. I live in SoCal year round and my wife and I are energy hogs. Central AC and heat all day in the relative to the season and we’ve been averaging $500-$600/yr for electric.
Edit: forgot to add here in Lakewood, CA our house has 98% solar profile. Like I said, solar makes sense in SoCal.
Yea, My house is so solar ready. Prettty flat roof, faces south, lots of surface area. In Coachella valley with full sun year round. I will get it eventually, but they are slowly ratcheting up the fees to access the grid that negates the savings. If I do it, I will install myself. Installation is where the real savings are made.
The fees will continue to increase as will the rates. They have been projected to increase for years and they are doing just that. Rates and fees will never get any cheaper than now. Guess which rates increase the most, prime time 4pm-10pm. Ouch!
Solar no longer makes sense unless you're going to live in the same house for 30 years or you're going to install a massive battery bank.
The Commies changed the rules for what the power companies pay you for what you put back into the grid and as a result solar installations were down 85$ last year.
Stay 30yrs or not it’s a better investment than a remodel or whatever aesthetics are the flavor of the day. This house has built in hedge against electricity costs. Sure, the days of cash payments for production are over. Not even sure if those were ever permanent anyway.
We Installed in 2019 with a battery bank as well. That was the last year for the 35% tax credit. Altogether we got $17k cash back in tax credits and rebates cause our roof needed refurbishment for the solar so that got included in the tax credit. Plus, I get credit for what I put back into the system. I’ll get the installation costs back and then some when I sell. Until then I will enjoy cheap energy. Like I said in CA solar can be a good investment. It was for us at least. Seems those days are gone perhaps.
For what it’s worth, my dad who lives in TX just had his installed a couple mos ago and he was able to still get credit for production as well.
The State of California tries to get everyone to file a tax return, whether required to or not. At many a board meeting, the income tax agency has complained that they cannot get people to file a tax return if they don't make enough money to be required to file. I believe that this new rate scheme is a ploy by the State of California to force low-income people to file a tax return in order to qualify for the lowest rates. And by driving up the prices now, everyone will be clamoring to get in on the lowest rates once the new rate scheme is rolled out.
I’ve been screaming this for the last decade, but it falls on deaf ears. We had a great, reliable, low-cost electric grid. But the Green push destroyed all of that by tugging at the heart-strings of liberals. They said, “oh look at the evil fossil fuels”, and proceeded to work through legislation and public pressure to villainize fossil fuels.
Utilities will make their money regardless, and I can’t blame them as most are investor owned, so they played along so as to not look like they were evil “Earth Killers”, knowing full well that they would still be able to recoup all their expenses from already installed capacity, AND earn money on all the new “green” energy being installed. I think once the full picture comes into view, we will all be shocked at the price tag and the decreased reliability of the system nationwide.
Add to that, that fossil fuels aren’t “going away” from our planet. They are picking up adoption in India, China, and other developing nations. Access to cheap fuel without competition from the US means lower energy costs for those countries, which puts them at a competitive advantage and further harms out economy and likely leads to further loss of industry to overseas competition. So essentially we are setting up a "no peeing" section in a public pool.
It is ridiculous, but i never see anyone able to articulate this to the public.
UNELECTED officials at the Calif. Public Utilities Commission ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR APPROVING ALL THE RATE HIKES...and when you call them...they turn around and say they can't object to rate hikes FOR PUBLIC INFRASTUCTURE....TALK ABOUT PASSING THE BUCK(s) 🔥😡🔥👿🔥
Back in the day, CA was having a drought and the State was pushing the newly introduced low-flush toilets that didn't work.
One of my acquaintances invented a device that was a plastic fitting that you put in regular toilets along with a 2 L bottle of water. It worked much better than the low flush toilets did then, and used about the same amount of water. It was super simple installation that anyone could do themselves.
The city (or maybe county, I don't remember now) of San Diego was getting ready to approve a massive subsidy to pay for people to install low-flush toilets in their homes. My friend told the city (or county) for less than the subsidy amount, they could buy one of these devices for every single home and mail it to them with instructions on how to install it. The city (or county) said they wouldn't consider it because the real purpose of the subsidy was to keep plumbers in business, not to save water. So our landfills got filled up with old toilets that worked fine in favor of these new toilets that actually used more water because you had to flush 3 or 4 times when you pooped. It was always about paying off the unions to ensure their voting block continued to support them.
My electricity bill went up almost 200 per month during the summer here in Phoenix since Hobbs "won the election" she has allowed 3 different rate hikes.

Look who owns Duke. The usual suspects, in their proper order, Blackrock, Vanguard and State Street. (I’m with Duke as well and got jacked also) https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/DUK/holders?p=DUK
This.

Dear Home owner, Be advice that users of solar panels must pay 'Sun lite' tax to compensate for other lost revenue. Thank you, Gov. Newscam
Expected behavior.

Factor in how much the solar installation costs- still a rip-off.

Solar is a scam.

Elect criminals for decades and then are shocked when you get robbed.
It's hard to elect good guys/girls when they cheat, that's how some stay in office for decades.
All. That’s how they all get in office for decades. Especially in California.
They are not elected. They “win elections.” There is a difference.
It ain't just in kalifornia, folks.
Pretty soon they are going to change the payment for electricity to be based on income, not usage: https://freebeacon.com/california/newsom-stands-by-equitable-electricity-bills-as-opposition-builds/

Yea, we see this coming, but it’s getting worse as all the “rich” people switch to solar & battery to get off the grid. They’re in a death spiral now.

How many utilities are in on the scam (remember PG&E had a Rothschild as CEO. Just saying

They're trying to force us to buy solar panels, which means buying a new roof too.

Perfect example of government bullshit
We’re subsidizing electric cars now. Welcome to socialism.

P fuckin G indeed raised my bill and i wasn't even consuming that much electricity.
But muh eV
