Its fine though. I will mark my political preference on the outside of my mail-in ballot because it's everyone else's business. Walk that bad boy over to an unattended "secure" drop-box. Have some random person collect all of the ballots when no one is around. Drive said ballots to another location to be "counted" behind close doors. This method gives me the utmost confidence in the Washington State selection process.

I did hear a story about a husband and wife (can we still say that?) who lived together and one was Democrat and the other was a Republican.
Both voters received return envelopes for their ballots but the Democrat one was pre-paid and the Republican one was not. That is two tricks in one. First, they can tell which prty the votes are most likely for and, second, they know which envelopes to "lose" en route.
People ask me how they could fiddle an election. I tell them that if you can think of any way at all it has already been tried and is probably still in use.

But primaries are paid for by the political parties. It could be that the Dems chose to pay for return postage and the GOP did not, thus two different return envelopes.

The elections in Washington are as fake as hen's teeth, but this is hardly remarkable. For a simultaneous primary, it is relevant to know which primary one is participating in. Facilitates sorting without breaking open the envelope.
Yeah this is pretty standard practice. This has been the case with primaries for as long as I can remember.
Back when they had polling stations, you can walk up and say you are anyone and by law the judges are required to hand you a ballot. You could even look at the book and point to someone and say "That's me!"
Now with mail-in voting, they don't even have to have a voter to cast votes for people.
It's been a while, but I thought you were supposed to present identification, with name and address, and then your place on the list would be marked and dated to prevent a repeat vote.
One could ask, "Why bother to vote by mail, when the Powers that Be will take care of my vote anyway?"
Make sure to declare Democrat so they have to open the letter to find out.
It's for nomination purposes, so they are probably using that to sort the ballots for the correct party nominee. Just guessing.

In my state, to vote for a Republican, you have to swear that you're registered as a Republican. I don't know if it's the same with Democrats.
I just think about all the conservatives who are independent voters or libertarians and the like. I wonder how many of them make a false promise just to give for a Republican.
Calirado has separate dim and rep ballots with different color bands visible from outside the envelope. Easy to lose the red ones...
They are an open primary state. Democrats can vote for Republicans, Republicans can vote for Democrats in the primary.
But you cannot vote in both.
You select which primary you are voting in.
You cannot for vote Nikki Haley and Joe Biden.
Well I get that but my ballot has both Republican and Democrat options and you can only vote in 1 of the 2. You don't need any sort of party indicator on the envelope to help this process.
