The Parliament has more power over the people than the Monarchy does. The kingdom & its parades, castles & ceremonies are a very large part of their tourist industry. Their culture has that romantic history. Now if their government can only live up to the ideal.

But: the parades and ceremonies are a symbollic form of mind control emphasising the low place of the common man. The castles are literal tools of military oppression paid for by their tax dollars...

In a way, I don't think the exact US state structure etc. is transferrable to the much smaller UK. I think we'd need a cut down version if we were to adopt a US style republic. I just hope we would keep all the important moving parts so that tyranny can't prevail for long.

Shocking how those guards are handling their weapons in such a slipshod manner. When I was in the military (US) we were trained to treat every rifle as if it were loaded and always practice safe handling techniques... one of which was to carry a rifle at "port arms" (muzzle pointing upward) and finger off the trigger.
I found some people watching videos of the famous horse guard. Incredible that thousands of tourists crowd around them with one hand control and a drawn sword held in their right hand. These people touch and fondle the horses as if they were pet goats at a children's petting farm. Torturing the horse. People watching at its cringyest.

After thinking about this, they may be handling stage props... rubber riffles w/ fixed bayonets. But still, if you get used to handling props that way, you'll handle the real thing that way too. Or maybe the Wellington Barracks are just full of actors or guys doing side gigs... maybe? I don't know, but it's a rather telling bit of video.
