I farm in South Dakota and have just been dabbling in regenerative agriculture the past couple of years. It really is amazing what I have seen change on my farm already. Reduced herbicides to very minimal, looking now to reduce commercial fertilizer and insecticides. Improving soil health and changing my mindset had been quite easy so far, just scary to make major changes. I sure hope they can help the small to mid size farmers like myself and slow down the big mega farmers!
Crop rotation. Plant alfalfa in fallow fields. I remember my dad got some wheat seed with rye in it. He waited for the crop to grow and hired us kids and the neighbor kids to walk through and pull the taller rye plants. We never used fertilizer or insecticides. Chicken ate bugs.
God bless you . What part of South Dakota if u don’t mind me asking . I own a house in Eureka South Dakota . I actually bought it for cash for my brother, a vet. Prices are still affordable there and the people are some of the best in our country ! I go back there 1 to 2 times a year , I love South Dakota but I live in San Diego and honestly I can’t do the winters u all endure ! But thank God for SD farmers !
I live near Watertown! I love SD, but the winters here really do suck! Used to go to San Diego a lot as a child. My great uncle had a boat at mission bay we would stay in. Beautiful area!
An immediate step needs to be putting a halt on this bullshit of them using "oh you have one chicken that tested positive for avian flu we're going to ERADICATE YOUR ENTIRE FLOCK" that's artificially driving up the price of eggs and chicken.
But one thing we REALLY NEED is education about farming the old, natural way.
Because this information has been heavily supressed, hidden and destroyed - unless you have a book on farming from 1850, it kinda hard for people to get started. It's been bred out of us already.
I'd like to see pamphlets, booklets and other materials from the USDA pursuant to these goals.
Agricultural extension agencies are good sources of information regarding what works best in your area. Of course, how well the ideas are implemented is a different story.
Yes, but the information itself is geared towards the big pharma paradigm at the moment - just like everywhere else.
An easy win for USDA would be to simply go into the library of Congress archives and reprint information prior to RockyFelcher taking over the book printing presses and Ag schools.
I remember my grandfather telling us about when the "big Ag" guy came around selling chemical fertilizer and hybrid seeds promising higher yields back in the 30s & 40s.
Do y’all have a Master Gardener Series through your Ag extension? I would like to take the course in my area but they fill up really fast and the seating is limited.
Yeah, you’re right, it does take a lot of time, thought I would try it now that I was able to retire. Workfagging definitely reduces our opportunities.
RFK Jr. breaks down the MAHA plan to reform USDA in 2 minutes: “We’re going to give farmers an off-ramp from the current system that destroys their health, wrecks the soil, makes Americans sick, and destroys family farms.”
“We’re going to REWRITE the regulations to give smaller operators a break.”
“We’re going to encourage sustainable regenerative farming that can build soil and replenish aquifers.”
“We’re going to BAN the worst agricultural chemicals that are already prohibited in other countries, and we’re going to remove conflicts of interest from the USDA dietary panels and commissions.”
Grifting at the end? WTF was that request for funds about? Why not take the clawed backed billions from USAID and fund that program instead of begging Americans for a couple of bucks? That did not make sense to me.
I love that he wants to take chemicals out of food, which is obviously a huge and necessary step. But I wish he'd also talk about lotions, shampoos, soaps, detergents. There are so many terrible chemicals in these things that mess with our natural hormone production, cause cancer, and on and on and on.
If you want to Make America Healthy Again, we need to do it to everything.

Hang in there, it sounds like help is on the way. Good luck and thanks for working to make people healthier!
Amen. Something we can all get behind.

This sounds great!

I guess your Ag extension office is different than mine, we don’t have that stuff, ours is geared towards the individual gardener.
Yeah we've got Rutgers extension here... but they leave a bit to be desired.

Yes, but I was unable to dedicate the time to taking it due to workfagging...

Permaculture and regenerative farming are big in California. Both the libs and the patriots are into it.

Good synopsis.

When was this video created? Is it possible this was a campaign ad? Don't know, myself.
Make corn, canola and soybean oils only saleable to make diesel fuel and lubricants out of.

Ban glyphosate and I will be so happy.

Is that second point about soil depletion?
Yes
