Had the exact same issue when I was injured. Torn tricep tendon in the gym. Not enough rest and lifting too heavy. Was told the MRI would be 1800, my deductible is 2k, and that it would take 2 weeks to get me in. I called around. Long story short, I was seen that same day, within 30 minutes of getting that news, self pay was $275. Fuck the Healthcare system.
A huge health insurance SCAM more people need to be talking about
American with insurance was told her MRI total with insurance would be $5,100
Without insurance the bill would be $700
After learning this she asked to not use her insurance, the hospital told her “Since you have insurance, we are not going to let you self-pay it. — How is that not a scam? Isn't it my choice if I want to self-pay something versus running it through my insurance”
“Insurance is such a ripoff. — health insurance is a scam”
And they think they will annex Canadians without a fight from them. Well none of this insurance is great at least Canadians don't pay for it! What happens to them if they become a 51st state?
This is a conversation I keep asking for that is being ignored.
When you present an insurance card at a health care provider for treatment, they are going to bill your insurance every time. You then pay anything the insurer does not.
Seek other MRI companies- you DO NOT need to do it at a hospital, there are many non-hospital companies that will gladly accept cash! I know- i did this in WA state 5 ish yrs ago.
Yup. My daughter has a broken bone not healing and the doctor had us submit for approval of an ultrasonic bone stimulator. With insurance, our out of pocket was $800. If we didn't have insurance it would have been $300.
We asked not to use insurance then and we were told that since we had insurance, it had to be used 🤬
I thought everybody knew this already ... it's all a scam of kickbacks, referral fees and illusory charges made to fit the scam not the cost. Does anyone think it's honest anymore?
Because if you have insurance you (your insurance) is paying for the 10 other people who pay nothing. Our elderly are paying for illegals, plain and simple. It’s theft.
It depends on your disability status. I'm rated 100 percent so all my care is without charge. Got medically retired atb16 years in. It's part of the fine print in the enlistment contract that nobody reads.
I'm a medical coder with a lot of revenue cycle managment experience and not only is this is 1000% true, but standard. I could go on and on and on about the really shady things insurance companies do to absolutely screw everyone in their path. Hospitals and Dr's included.
They need to be gutted by something like DOGE.
Btw the reason for the self pay thing is because hospitals are contractually obligated to go through the insurance if aware of them. Again. Isnurance companies are to blame.
It's not about making you healthy. It's about robbing you of your retirement so that you can't leave anything for your children to be better off than you were. It's a back door form of taxation.
That's the hospital. Has she talked to her insurance company? The bill submitted to insurance is often wildly different from what the contract between insurance company and provider allows. $5100 is way out of line for an MRI and she's saying that's her copay. This doesn't make sense. She needs to talk to the insurance co.
Insurance is why my husband can't retire and I had to start working full time again. Otherwise, he'd be able to retire right now and I could have kept my part time job which I loved. But it's not just the insurance, it's also the hospitals charging more when you have insurance.
Yup. I can't get necessary procedures, so instead I stave off health issues with nature's pharm. Works well, but every now and then you need a good cutter.
Canceled mine before 2024 ended, had health insurance for 3 years and never used it, not even once...plus it cost me a lot of money in taxes because it was a subsidized insurance. I'm healthy, I keep myself healthy so I don't have to visit a doctor. Besides, I don't trust doctors anymore. Got roped in getting health insurance because my SIL is a insurance agent, finally breakdown and told her this was a waste of money.

Good thing 0bama forced us all to get insurance. 👍🏿
Geez.. I would have loved a 700. MRI. I have no ins and paid about 2,500.
And they think they will annex Canadians without a fight from them. Well none of this insurance is great at least Canadians don't pay for it! What happens to them if they become a 51st state?

Sic the DOGGY on them.

I hope everything was okay with you.

More insurance CEOs need to die
That’s some BS right there. MRI at the VA costs me $50 thank God.
Why did you have to pay at VA for an mri?
Any regular office visits and minor stuff is $35, and any procedures or surgeries are $50.

That's because insurance subsidies the non-insured.
Thus, when they already know you have insurance, they will not allow you to 'pay cash' as it were.
It's not about making you healthy. It's about robbing you of your retirement so that you can't leave anything for your children to be better off than you were. It's a back door form of taxation.
The whole medical industrial complex is a scam! Greed knows no bounds! That snake on that staff is a dead giveaway!
Have the exact same issue with vision Care on Medicare. It was always cheaper out of the pocket.

Yes, happened here too.
Thank Obama care
This shit is true. Have had buddies do this. Go to a clinic that is cash only instead of going through insurance.
