Low quality, low volume. The whole big Mike obummer healthy kids program was when I was in high-school. Outrageously small portions for a growing kid, besides the fact that me and about 3/4 of the entire school was in a sport. I wet to a small town school. Definitely inflated and if we want things fixed, we gotta rip it down to the studs and rebuild imo
My school servers the children undercooked (literally raw in the middle, they showed me) chicken and biscuits that are still doughy in the middle. It doesn't even matter the quality of the food if it isn't properly prepared.
funding for the school lunches should be coming from the local people that send their kids there. NOT federal funding.. the federal government is not a lunch wagon. by those standards, anyone that home schools should be getting federal funds to feed their kids at home, too, right? we're sick of the government being the piggybank for EVERYTHING! if people want food service, then pay for it!
And they feed our kids garbage on top of that. We goto thanksgiving every year and we have to pay for it. Some kids get free or reduced lunches but most are paying $5 per day. The food taste like booty cheeks!
The states are more likely to manage this better. I would not doubt that the federal government is preparing to hand the funding over to states to manage.
"As a pandemic-era program, Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA) will now be sunsetted at the end of the performance period, marking a return to long-term, fiscally responsible initiatives…”
There is something not good with the food bank program. A friend of ours volunteers there. They give out a few questionable things like tuna that’s 30% soy protein, the pork, Cook’s, is from a Chinese owned company. Don’t get me wrong. They don’t give this out exclusively. There are other things, depending on the cycle. The ground beef comes from a vendor who raises beef for the program. I can’t remember the name of the company but there are no claims to being antibiotic free, unvaxxed, free of hormones, etc. It makes me wonder if they’re feeding the poor vaccinated meat. The soy in the tuna concerns me as it the soy plant is estrogenic-female hormones can’t be good for men. I am thinking the Trump team is cleaning this up. I’m praying this is so.
Do you want the corruption rooted out? Then like a house, we need to rip it down to the studs, get rid of everything wrong, and rebuild from the bottom. Otherwise the hydra will survive. And we can't have that can we
Yeah it's corrupt. One lunch lady stole almost half a million here in florida. Kids eat crap on that system. For the money they should be getting steak every day.
The claim that the Trump administration is glorifying kids not being fed by canceling $1B in USDA local food purchasing is misleading. The USDA, via the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC), terminated the Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) and Local Food for Schools (LFS) programs on 3/10/25, totaling $1.2B, as they were Biden-era initiatives tied to climate and local food goals, not core USDA priorities. The Trump administration redirected $500M to The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) to support food banks with commodity purchases, aiming for efficiency in addressing food insecurity (USDA statement, 3/10/25). These cuts don’t target kids’ meals; school lunch programs like NSLP remain funded. Outlets like Politico and Bernstein, a radio personality, oversimplify the policy shift, framing it as cruelty rather than a reallocation reflecting new priorities. Sources: USDA announcements, CCC funding reports.

Their definition of food and ours are worlds apart. Also, probably massively inflated contracts feeding the cheapest crap to children.
I witnessed that!

Has there been a single program so far that wasn't corrupt?
Yes. Many, many good programs have been cut. US Forest Service programs. SAMHSA programs. To name a couple.
oh yeah the forest service workers who were working in their pajamas from the computer were sooooooo helpful

Additionally it's hard to even consider school lunches as "food".
Remember when you went to your church for help?
if our government has their fingers in it it is corrupt

I agree with sending the issue to the states.. keep funding out of it.
That would definitely make a mess out of the teachers union……..

We need to get RFK Jr. to look into it. That is one of his pet projects now that he is head of HHS.

Was the program corrupt?
Yes. In more ways than one.
Ever notice how the "head guy" in charge of the food is always 300+ lbs .. AND drives a huge SUV like a Suburban or van? Yeah ....
Back in the early to mid '70's when I was in Junior High (remember those?) and High School, some of the stuff was ok but most was crap. 🤢
When it was garbage offerings, I would just get a big soup bowl full of corn. At least that was good, all buttery and salty! 😋

It's against the law to donate leftovers in some states. I'm seeing rumblings that that's changing.

Why.
