I have never seen the IRS this bad before, but title says it all. I never owed taxes before in my life as i just work a regular job. This year they're making me pay $2500 for no reason, and I called and they transferred me to 6 different departments, only to hang out up me. All our taxpayers are going to this type of gross incompetence?
Just found out a friend owes $6,000 and my other friend owes $14,000. What the actual fuck?
I hope Trump dismantles them. Maybe theyre acting crazy this year because theyre worried Trump is gonna investigate them so theyre trying rob every dollar from us
I hate to break it to you, but that is your company that you work for and whoever does their payroll … not the IRS.
Refunds / balances due are strictly a function of how much you had withheld from your paychecks during the year.
The 2024 tax laws are almost identical to previous years.
Though, I can tell you that if your company uses ADP for payroll processing, ADP messed up a lot of people in 2024. Not sure if their withholding calculations were wrong internally or what, but I’m seeing it across the board with companies that use ADP.
Another common problem is how your withholding may be set, if both spouses work.
As much as we all dislike the IRS, your owing and your buddies owing are as a result of not enough withholding during the year.
My two cents … 30 year tax accountant.
Sounds good.
This happened to both my husband and I in 2024 as well. Our companies did not withold taxes properly. His company did not withold any at all, despite him specifically requesting otherwise. Took him a week to reach HR just to chew them out and ask them what the heck. I don't think he ever got an answer. Very odd this happened a lot last year it seems.
Both my wife and I are withholding at 'single' with '0' exemptions and we still owe almost $4k.
It is transatlantic thing. ADP messes thing up in Europe as well.
I would bet: DEI hires ... in order to stay relevant in EU.
It is going to be a fun thing when a Colorado company is slated to provide the Dutch Tax Department with a new system, which has its contender up in arms.
Taxes have and will always be a shit show based on blackmail.
What is ADP ?
Remember how Bernie Sanders said “Why do there need to be so many types of deodorant? One is good enough for anybody.”
If you apply that mindset to accounting, ADP is “The Payroll”.
Yep, one is all we need. Who cares if that one makes my skin peel? Who said this guy has good ideas?
It is a payroll processing company. Corporations outsource their payroll function to ADP.
TV resolution...
Now it's 4 KAY or 8 KAY if you're rich...
I'm going to hold off paying for a bit and see.
fuck em. I got no paper trail anyways. cash is king
Wife and I got a refund for the first time in a few years. as we typically owe. What I find amazing with D.O.G.E, that the government agencies cannot pass an audit, but they know enough to reduce my refund by $54.36 to cover a tax obligation from 2023. Which I was unaware of and so was my accountant.
I just got my state refund garnished $40 for something related to a class I took at the junior college 10 freaking years ago!!! It was a $25 charge with a $15 fee. When I get to the bottom of this and find I am correct, I plan to send a bill for a fee plus the $40!!! I am sooooooo very 😡😡😡😡
Update on the garnishing of my state refund- I called the junior college, did not give specifics, but lady I spoke with knew exactly what I was referring to. She said it was sent out in error, she will correct and send it to state comptroller. I’ll supposedly get my $40 back, but how fast is another question.
Just think if others got a letter, but said, ‘Hell, I don’t remember, it’s only $40. It’s not worth my time checking it out.’ Who is getting rich off of all these $40 errors???
i would ask the irs how they came up with that number and the agent who authorized it. the implication is that you consent to them making changes (to documents you signed under penalty or perjury) without your knowledge or consent. IRC Section 6065 requires the agent to rely on personal knowledge which they cant do. $60 may be nothing but it may also bite you in the ass later if uncontested.
I owe $2000 this year. Every year since I retired they say I owe more and more. How is that possible. And I upped what I pay in taxes throughout the year. I seriously think they are trying to get all they can this year knowing this is all gonna stop.
Don't put money in bank.
I have probably less than $600 and the tax franchise could still take money directly from my bank ... After they found out mistakes/misunderstanding, there is no refund or return of that money.
Not my experience this year. Nor family and friends are having this experience. Everyone, myself included paying same or less. Sorry to hear some are having trouble.
Something is out of whack with your dependents or tax withholding.
I made more and got more back this year then last year. I have had a refund for at least 10+ years in a row.
I have to pay a lot too.. I refused to pay under Biden and now paying for my crimes
it's no wonder Trump and DOGE are investigating the IRS
I transferred my 401k to my new company. Since there were no penalties for a withdrawal when transferring, I took out money to pay off debt. When I did so, they estimated $20k in federal taxes so I paid them upfront. Ended up owing another $9k in federal taxes. That’s in addition to the $20k I gave them out of my paycheck. It’s outright robbery.
My parents got hit hard this year too. Especially with property taxes. All taxation is theft and needs to be eradicated.
My husband and I are on one low income - we usually get a refund. This year we have to fork over $2,500. It came unexpectedly and I’m not even sure how to pay for that as we litteraly live paycheck to paycheck and hanging on by a thread after our rent increased to 75% of our income.
No joke, I had to pay almost $12k in taxes this year...😡
We sold our home last year and took money out of our retirement account. They said we owed $56,000 in federal! TG they discovered a glitch in the accounting.
Ok that's just ridiculous. Im sorry you had to go through that. It's NO WONDER why people want the IRS abolished
3K here and what's ridiculous is that some who don't pay in get "refunds:"
Same here. Part of ours was the program they use for taxes at work wasn’t working properly
I owed 1000s every year except this year. First time in 10 years I got a refund.
I submitted my tax return a few weeks ago... and I owe $107 .
My wife keeps getting on me about paying it, but I told her that after the $ tens of thousands we paid already this year in taxes, the IRS can find me in Texas for their $107.
Should I;
A) Pay the One Hundred and Seven Dollars now, so they don't tack on penalties and I end up owing $150 by end of the year?
B) Stand on my principles, and make them spend $500 in manpower trying to collect their $107?
C) Pay the amount in pennies?
D) Just ignore the IRS and hope they are abolished as an agency before they can collect a dime?
E) Realize that I am lucky to be living in the best nation in the world, and I should feel lucky to contribute to the welfare of this nation by gladly paying my taxes in full?
I hate to be Debbie Downer .. but the computer system will just spit out tax notices until you pay it.
Which … unfortunately … then causes arguments in your home. No human irs agent will look at a balance that low.
And, they’ll just take it from your refund next year.
But … meh … I’m ready for the whole thing to be abolished.
Now that we know for a fact that our money has been wasted, mis-used, absconded with … it’s time. Shut it down and salt the earth.
People keep asking me … won’t you be upset … youll be out of a job.
Nope … I’ll be celebrating with everyone else!
D fren. I pick D
Same
can i ask what happens if you dont pay? i really dont got money to give them but i have no idea what will happen if i dont
Likely nothing but I spent time in federal prison with quite a few men with tax issues.
My accountant filed an extension for me - I don't have to pay until August 15.
Of course, if they owe me I don't get it back until after then.
If you want to play the game filing an extension should avoid bills and letters but penalties and fees will accrue regardless if owed.
Not at tax expert except at paying them.
Sounds to me like your place of work is treating you as a contractor, and not an employee.
So weird, we've never had issues with our taxes and in fact got over $10K back. No clue how, but here we are. Sorry to hear about everyone's luck. That really stinks.
Are you a US Person for tax purposes?
The answer is no, lest you have something to do with DC
It doesn't work like that. Taxes were not raised last year. You either made more money and didn't take enough out. Or your deductions changed. They can't randomly decide that you have to pay more taxes.
I strongly recommend writing a huge check to the IRS and signing it go f*** yourself.
Last couple of years I know people that ended up owing as much as $30,000 from not adjusting their anticipated income when renewing their Obama Care.
what the actual fuck? that's literally theft
If you file taxes and pay the IRS you are kinda complicit guys. Not saying there couldn't be repercussions, but imo if you know what we know you have a duty to stand against it. Christians, would Jesus continue to pay taxes? If not, why are you?
I owe 6000. They aren’t getting it.
can i ask what will happen if you dont pay? i dont wanna give them shit neither, but im scared of penalties or punishments
Your best bet is to get set up on a payment plan with them. You can do it online. They’ll divide the payment by 72 months .. and it comes out automatic withdrawal.
That would amount to roughly $35 a month if your balance due is $2,500.
Or, you can pay by credit card.
Or, if you haven’t actually filed the return yet, you can file an extension and wait to file the return until October 15. Maybe by then you could pay part of it.
The interest and late payment penalties until October 15 wouldn’t be that much.
Just don’t go past October 15 … because that’s when the bigger penalty kicks in.
If you have other questions, feel free to PM me. But … definitely take a look at your withholding. You don’t want to be in the same position next year!
