I don't know about people in her position but I'm pretty sure the dc gun laws (for those that abide) are still fairly strict. I know it's not as strict as it used to be but still fairly certain it's not like a lot of places.

I don't trust her at all with Homeland Security if she was unwilling to secure her own bag with all those important items inside! When in a public establishment, if my purse is crossbody then it remains on my body. Any other style remains on my lap.

If you had a Secret Service detail whose job is to protect you, you might reasonably believe your purse is safe in a restaurant. The thief should have never been allowed to get anywhere close.
I wonder if the thief was dressed as a waiter, maskless, and delivered food or water to the table - sneaking the purse away at that point. Then he masked up and walked out.

Some of these comments are not thought out. For instance, I have often had a few $K in my purse - that's not unusual and she is wealthy and may often have much more on her, I am not. I imagine there is a lot of tipping that goes on with officials out to eat at a restaurant, etc. A meal for a whole family including grandkids, wouldn't be cheap. Paying with her own money shows integrity. Who knows, maybe SS is still under suspicion and were given the opportunity to prove themselves. I am sure we will hear more soon.
