Let's make Carpentry Great Again! I need to go back to school to learn this, along with numerous other great works! You rock, Joys1Daughter with all your posts!
It's probably unknown to most, but making furniture was a part of being a carpenter once upon a time. Now all they do is frame houses (poorly, rough ins only), build scaffold, and at 1 carpenter per 50k population - builds cupboards.
You are correct. It’s the rare carpenter that builds high quality projects nowadays. They are hard to find and always expensive. But furniture should last generations. Check out my friend at rvp1875.com. He builds beautiful furniture by himself using entirely 1875 technology. From hand cutting the trees all the way to ancient recipe staining. He dresses like he’s on Little House on the Prairie. Rob is a great guy but too liberal in politics for my taste.
I know exactly how you feel. We live in the house my Paw Paw built 85 years ago. Miss him DO much but grateful to have someone built with his own hands.
We are blessed and enjoying these exciting times! How are you and your family?
That's nice, but I hope the jobs go to Americans and not all the illegals and "migrants" running rampant around NC right now. I'd like to hear when ICE is coming to the Southeast.
I am pleased to announce that we are doing a major Tariff Investigation on Furniture coming into the United States. Within the next 50 days, that Investigation will be completed, and Furniture coming from other Countries into the United States will be Tariffed at a Rate yet to be determined. This will bring the Furniture Business back to North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, and States all across the Union. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
As a 2002 Furniture Design graduate from Kendall College of Art and Design, when the furniture manufacturers come back to the US, I’m ready to start designing furniture again!
In my region of Virginia, furniture and textiles were most of the economy until the 1990s. They fought globalization until the bitter end but ultimately lost the battle. The area has never really recovered but many of the buildings are kept clean and in good repair — I like to think out of pure hope. A great book about the furniture industry in southwestern Virginia is “Factory Man” by Beth Macy. Of course NC was also big on furniture. It was all a connected network that started with one family that branched out.
Henkle Harris. Time was you would have to wait a couple of years to get a piece after ordering because the demand was so great. Used pieces of it still sell for 1000's.
What we need is to learn how they made those Hover Boards in Back to the Future II and transfer that tech into furniture. Floating chairs is just what this world needs. 😆
Well I hate to say it, but thanks to Helene the Carolinas are riddled with downed trees - hopefully they can be used for furniture. The felling cost will be saved, just gotta go in and haul it out.
I used to get such beautiful furniture shipped from these states. Then, we got flooded with cheap imports sold by Ashley and Raymor and Flannigan. I even had a R and F salesman once tell me that one of the couches I was looking at was just for light use such as for "drinking tea" implying that it wouldn't last long.
IKEA: (Sweats Nervously)
KEKing bigly to your comment! Well done!

That's the stink in Malmo.
Hopefully the Amish benefit big over this. They fully deserve it, amazing quality furniture they build.

Got my dining room set from them...It's lovely! You can semi-customize their furniture online.

My grandfather was a master craftsman of woodworking. We have beautiful pieces he built. He even made a three legged chair.
How wonderful to have treasures made by your Grandfather Shali! ✨♥️
Yes, it's nice. Wish I still had my grandfather, but having things he made with his own hands is special! How you been Joy?

Wow... congratulations! You are going to wonderful opportunities again! ✨ God bless our President! 🙏
Thank you! When I started the program in 1999, the school never told me I’d have to travel to China to be employed!
Thank goodness you don't need to do that now!
My buddy designs and builds amazi g stuff
Can you tell me why chairs are so short in the rise? (Front to back) Seems like every stinking chair on the market painfully cuts me off mid thigh.
Probably cost savings...
Start now and have a portfolio ready to go!
Which companies do you know of that may be a good investment to look into?

Gotta be Martinsville, a once prosperous city decimated by needless globalism.
Nearby.
I love the beautiful Craftsmanship! A tradition! Thanks for the book tip LT!

Nice. They buy our wood, and then sell it back to us.
Thank you President Trump. I used to love shopping hand made rockers in North Carolina. Make furniture great again.
Yay! 🎉
Wayfair just got pwned publicly
Now THIS is a tarriff I can get behind. American, bench made furniture is the best.
Yes!
Furniture from NC and MI is fantastic.
Tell City Furniture Company, Tell City, IN. Would love to see them back in business.
I believe there's a great opportunity if the company wants it!
What we need is to learn how they made those Hover Boards in Back to the Future II and transfer that tech into furniture. Floating chairs is just what this world needs. 😆
YES! I STILL want one of those hoverboards! ✨
