I know because I had 4 sons in public school at the time and would have nightly dinner table discussions with them, forced to dispell a lot of what they were learning, and reteaching them the truth. Rewriting of text books? Heck all the kids I ask today, if they carry around text books, all look at me like I've got a third eye in my forehead. Plus I doubt the school districts around the country teach kids how to read. But they certainly can play video games on the school issued laptops.
Naw, I work with a couple of high school kids and I asked them about carrying around books during school hours and they looked really weird at me. They then proceeded to tell me about the laptops in school. All they are learning is how to be good typists, IMHO.
I went yesterday to my county assessor and found out that 86% of my property taxes dollars are going to subsidize my local school system. I about popped a fuse, because I was thinking that percentage would be closer to 40% and the lions share would go to sheriff's and fire protection districts within the county.
The more you ask the more knowledge you garner. Heck I asked if my property taxes could be lowered and the assessor said he would see what he could do. Ten minutes later he came back with a number that was $1000 lower than what that office told my wife and me a few months ago. Happy wife, happy life!
