Property taxes must be abolished. The government has 0 right to tax your owned property. The founders would have been up in arms over this. We as regular people have been so taken advantage of and stripped of our right to quell state tax abuse to force landowners to sell. Land in America is not a government entity or utlity. It does not provide services for the government paid by the citizens unless it purchases its own property for the purpose of government. My god we are robbing our nation's people blind, suffocating our business growth and forcing good folks off their property. Its all goes to beurocacy and middle men, fraud, and waste. Major property owners in Florida need to repair their condos with the new regulations and all of the hurricanes and they just cant because property taxes are through the roof.
Property tax pays for local streets, roads, and law enforcement. Would you rather have your sales tax more than doubled?
BTW, in my area, if you're over 72 and your only income is social security, you don't pay any property taxes. But I was smart enough to have other income, so I have to pay a little bit in property taxes, less than $100 a month.
The worst tax I pay is income tax. If the income tax on SS is removed, I'll be a lot happier.
Income tax is also a scam but thats another topic. In Florida we dont have income tax. Id be fine paying slightly higher gas tax and sales tax to cover some of the discrepancy from loss in property tax revenue. I dont mind sales tax actually because you can control the amount of sales tax you pay, and it encourages your city to be clean to encourage tourism growth, which increases sales tax revenue. I realized this because if a city like Orlando is dirty, they'll have a bad reputation and therefore lose tourism, the whole state of Florida is like that. In Portland, they had no sales tax, but did have income tax and property tax. Property tax was double what I pay in FL. The city was trashy as hell, they allowed RVs to trash streets all over the place for free. They had no incentive to keep it clean for tourism tax revenue because they didnt have sales tax. They have 70 year old bridges and poor infrastructure. They just robbed their citizens and manage the city like shit. And sure, some if it gets divied out. but it doesnt go directly to them like a business exchange. It goes through government budget beurocracy, which makes a difference. I think there are better ways to collect revenue and fund local necessary services while not pushing people off their owned property with ridiculous tax costs that the government doesnt own or utilize. And further, preventing the government from becoming excessively large.
I've only been inside Illinois just far enough to get to Metropolis and get my photo taken in front of the Superman statue. Then I left the state and will probably never return.
That’s reasonable in orlando Florida it’s not unusual to have property taxes $8,000 to $15,000 per year especially on lakefront then it can be $20,000 plus per year. It’s criminal
A thousand times yes. Property taxes only ever go up, as idiots with an ego build loud, muchly glassed 'community hubs' with that money. They never repair the water mains, or the roads, but by all means sell all the library books.
... with WiFi for homeless people at some tiny tables, or let's have architectural-design-award-winning toilet blocks. LOL. - that get blocked; oh and ventilation don't work; and oops disabled wheelchair users get stuck inside...oh wait.
Every few years you get a new batch of uneducated twats, who want to leave a mark on their town, and employ their good friends to do the 'project management' , because there is a limited budget, so no need to hire an akshual one. LOLOL,
Oh, and don't ya think there is some fiscal hibbidy-jibbidy gwan behind the veils? And the rates only go up.
How come one cannot FOIA the budgets from these councils???
Perhaps you live in the wrong part of the country. My property taxes aren't that much, less than $100 a month, and haven't changed significantly in the nearly 30 years I've lived in this house. They pay for local streets, roads, and law enforcement. Our streets and roads are in good repair. I've not seen any "grandiose" local projects in my area ever.
Then you're not subject to the school systems demand for more money through the revenue office using the Ad Valorem taxing system.
Count yourself lucky.
My council was in the black until 2022, and is now panicking, raising rates, and still spending on vanity projects. I don't intend to move, because it's my home. But there is a rising damp, shall we say, in the community...
My position got overrun over the years. Now I am paying $600 a month. And another $140 a month for HOA. They actually violate the law on property taxes, but there’s no enforcement. They just decide how much they want this year and run it through an algorithm to divide it up.
Smart. I like the idea. You don't need to pay the taxes if you don't buy anything. I can deal with that. Everybody needs a place to live and if you already pay for the house, you shouldn't pay for anything else.
I love it! Property taxes are completely unconstitutional! Our constitution built on property ownership and if the government can take it then it’s not yours.
I don’t know what is his plan but I don’t like him. He banned the chemtrails but still happening I saw them the other day over Naples skies. I believe they are way above and nobody can see them anymore however I saw a big one in Naples. We have more illegals coming and driving trucks. Who are giving them the money to come and stay? Plus I hate the DMV, they help them too. DeSantis look the other way for political purposes and of course get more money. Do not forget what he did with the Covid giving the hospitals privileges in the era of Covid approving what they wanted and an extension to keep going with the Covid plandemic protocol. I will never forget that.
Yes he is doing good but I believe just for appearances because he wanted to be re elected and now his wife is running against Morgan and Morgan. I prefer her than him. If he wins he will approve the marijuana which is not good for us because all the junkies will come here and vote Demoncrats and then will turn out like Colorado. No thank you.
That’s what they say, believe me brain, my brother had many years taking marijuana and my family had to struggle a lot with him, yes I believe he is better now because he married a good woman who has not abandoned him, but it has destroyed lives, I don’t think is good for health. I never smelled that crap in my life and I didn’t even know what was the smell like until I went to the hard rock in Hollywood Florida and I asked my sister what is that smell? Smell like rats? She told me that it was the smell of marijuana, she knew because she worked in a fabric plant where people were using it, it is a horrible smell and frankly I can imagine how bad affects the human body if you consume it.
Oh, wouldn't that be grand? But I think property taxes are what pays for county governments. At least here in California that is so. So, no health departments.
I feel like property assessments raising your value and therefore the tax you pay on your property is double / triple / how-ever-many-years-beyond-purchase-date-le taxation. You paid tax on the purchase price. At the very least only tax the difference between purchase price and what is assessed, then when a new assessment comes out, between the new and old assessments. Imagine paying a tax on a loaf of bread at the store, then having to pay again every time you eat a slice. Nobody (sane) would do that.
And to add insult to injury, when you sell the property, you have to pay capital gains taxes on any extra you made, above and beyond what you paid for the place.
And don't give me that "oh the local governments have to pay for roads and schools etc" bullshit. They can raise their sales tax and/or income tax, have bonds on the voting polls, etc. If the town is worth living in or visiting, people will pay to live there.
Also I feel that raising the assessment, then making you pay taxes on that potential income, is no different than if they made me pay taxes on potential sale of my stocks, as if I had sold them but I didn't. And if by some freak chance my assessment goes down, they're surely not going to go back and refund me for taxes I paid on a higher amount, are they?
I just finished appealing my property tax in Maryland. I found out there that I get a Homestead Credit. My taxes, I was told, go up 4% per year-what a raise the government gets. Not 4% per 3 year adjustment, but 4% per year. Who is getting that kind of a raise every year? Probably not many people.
It was disgusting, the appeal, I didn't say all I wanted to say. Of course this information floored me.
I think you are right. I don't think my appeal will help me at all. I wanted to appeal to get some things out, words, that made sense to me I forgot most of those and...
For anything like that you need to at least arrive with a printed list of bullet point. Preferably a prepared statement, then if necessary free wheel from there.
But, as I said, you are asking unaccountable public servants to stop stealing from you when the theft benefits them.
I wish I had talked to you before I went to the meeting. It shocked me at the informalness (if that is a word) of the 3 person interview and I arrived early and they took me very early. I don't think I presented my best case-oh well. They told me I have one more step-a tax court. Never been there, but I will see if it is promising to go, if not I will skip it.
No property tax would be fantastic. But getting rid of income tax would be much better. Think of all the money that is locked up in 401ks and IRAs. People can't use their own money because the graduated income tax will eat a large portion of it.
I have some stock that did VERY WELL this year, but can't sell it because it will drive up my income this year, and then I get zapped in taxes.
Not currently with Trump in office but if the globalists have control of the larger bodies & cities can not have tax revenue, then, in time they will try to make those cities dependent on them (by giving them money for things) The Feds already often give cities money. Where the money flows is where the control goes. If they want to force a nationwide vax mandate & cities are dependent on them for money for everything it would be hard for them to refuse it.
Property taxes must be abolished. The government has 0 right to tax your owned property. The founders would have been up in arms over this. I want it done also. I would love to see that done.

Those things can be funded other ways. Property tax is the dumbest way to do it. Dont be so accepting of slavery.
Come to Illinois and tell me again about roads.
I've only been inside Illinois just far enough to get to Metropolis and get my photo taken in front of the Superman statue. Then I left the state and will probably never return.
Look at the u.s. debt clock. They had a banking plan they published that covers all this.
That’s reasonable in orlando Florida it’s not unusual to have property taxes $8,000 to $15,000 per year especially on lakefront then it can be $20,000 plus per year. It’s criminal
It’s communism by the back door.
YEs.

Its the principal not the amount.
So you want to bring back road gangs?
When I was in WA, I understand that it supports school?
Yes, it there is variation in reponsibilites between councils, for example in the UK, some councils also run social worker units.
In 2012, I supported Herman Cain, because I endorsed his 9-9-9 plan.
That's a 9% business flat tax, a 9% individual flat tax, and a 9% national sales tax.
This was all dependent on the repeal of other taxes, of course, including property taxes.
Trump showed me there was a better way via tariffs, but Cain's idea was still far superior to what we have now.
Screw property taxes.
Herman Cain did eventually prove his heart was in the right place by endorsing Trump. Rest in peace.
Smart. I like the idea. You don't need to pay the taxes if you don't buy anything. I can deal with that. Everybody needs a place to live and if you already pay for the house, you shouldn't pay for anything else.

Property and inheritance taxes are the product of a very sick, envious public servant mind.
He would be loved if he is the first one to abolish.
Taxation is theft.
I can deal with gas tax for the roads.
I consider that a "use" tax and agree if it was actually for the roads.
Yes. I agree.
I think it's up to the states. He's having a hard time with his legislature in FL.
It's up to local governments, either city or county.
Still won't vote DeSanctimonious for President or as Vance's VP.
LOL

You think Meatball looked the other way? I thought he's doing good but you would know if you are there.
I know Marijuana is good for medical purpose but I know it's not good for just casual recreation.
That’s what they say, believe me brain, my brother had many years taking marijuana and my family had to struggle a lot with him, yes I believe he is better now because he married a good woman who has not abandoned him, but it has destroyed lives, I don’t think is good for health. Back b4 2000, if you smell Marijuana, it has a sweet smell. Now, it smells horrid. I don't know what they have done to it.
Really, you can believe me because I used to work with the cops and they identify stuff just by smells. It was a very nice fragrant b4.
If any pedes here know what I am talking about, please pipe up.
Ok. I believe you, but now it is worse than a rat like skunk
Definitely smell like skunk. Legalize and put poison is what I believe.
Oh, wouldn't that be grand? But I think property taxes are what pays for county governments. At least here in California that is so. So, no health departments.
I agree with sale tax only. Use sale tax and reduce the government.
Or local streets, roads, or law enforcement.
How do you frogs feel about DeSantis? I'm not sure where he goes on my bingo card.
No idea.
Weve been asking this question for years. Do it ron. Make it irreversable.
Amen.

Wow. This is such crap.
👍yes it is.
A citizen appealing to public servants about an unjust “law” made by public servants for the benefit of public servants is pointless.
It’s getting to a point where they need to be reminded that they are employees of the citizens.
I think you are right. I don't think my appeal will help me at all. I wanted to appeal to get some things out, words, that made sense to me I forgot most of those and...

Yeah but it could be considered a move toward globalism
What?
