This is a bit scary, don't you think? Slippery slope? Isn't this similar to what the UK has done? What about free speech? What are they looking for, and what's worthy of causing concern? When is this check performed? Who is doing it? AI? What are the algorithms? What's next?
Free speech is a right for US citizens in this country, and only US citizens. If someone is visiting the USA, I want a security department of our government to vet these people.
Our rights do indeed come from God. In the absence of a political power acknowledging those rights, however, they do not exist in practicality. We are blessed here in the US to have a constitution which protects our rights as citizens.
That constitution does not protect foreigners who wish to visit.
In theory it is sound. OP is correct in his response to you about application to US citizens according to our laws.
Yes, there is the possibility of abuse.
It is a strange phenomenon, many of the ideals we've been brought up with are changing.
Being a country of immigrants has been America's calling card, but now we're moving into an age of selective immigration. Originally a way to bring population into a melting pot, we've now seen first hand what happens due to major abuse of that policy.
The change is intended... and we need to push back against it. Free speech is the epicenter of our country, and we are the beacon of free speech for the world.
Worst case scenario... some dude puts on his social media that he intends to kill Americans... Okay... that shit should be flagged way ahead of time, not when he's arriving on our soil and passing through customs. Threats are threats, period. But this general "trust us, we're the government looking out for your best interest so we're going to check your social media" is very, very scary and slippery. I wonder what Veterans would say about this, too. What did they fight for? Typically, they fought against oppression in other countries (for fear it would spread here, I realize, but oppression none the less).
You are such an idiot... the right to free speech is a God-given inalienable right (enshrined by the Constitution), its not a US govt given right to be doled out or taken away
Read what you have just written and then read the Federalist papers... Unalienable Rights from God have no "US citizen" qualification ... The Bill of Rights says Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech ... of the people
But i did do some digging, its "proposed". Also says its not mandatory.
I don't really see an issue with this, if you can't own what you say on SM. You agree to terms and conditions when you sign up for those platforms. Its in the realm of background checks at this point. This may serve more as a deterrent for plebs than a reason for suspicion of an innocent traveler. We have enough "influencers" as it is anyway here shitting up the net.
It's not like they don't actively check ours here in the US anyway. Do you not think its possible they do when you travel to other countries? At least we are being transparent here.
There's not a place outside of the US that's safe for US citizens to go anyway. Stay in the US, there are a million places right here at home to visit and to vacation. Spend your money at American businesses.
How does one even go about doing this? GAW is the only "social media" I use, and I don't save all my posts and comments. Does GAW save five years worth? Certainly not my DMs, which I checked once.

False.
Our rights come from God
Our Constitution simply says the congress won’t infringe on those rights
Edit: the downvote without a rebuttal is taken as a win

I agree with both you and OP wholeheartedly.

wowzer. really? so if you travel, you expect to be muzzled?
If they say they don't have social media how would we know?
I never used my name, my phone, my email on social media and I wont be giving you any phone or email I use.
That should eliminate most of the UN.
Better move their headquarters to Somalia.
It would be a good reason to get the UN out of the US.
Next up they ban you if you were critical of israel on social media.
Does being critical of Israel's Genocide get you flagged?
You can take that one to the bank
I don't like this one bit. I honestly think it's wrong.
I ain't clickin that shit btw.

I'd expect reciprocal phuckery for US citizens entering a foreign country...
Careful...
There's not a place outside of the US that's safe for US citizens to go anyway. Stay in the US, there are a million places right here at home to visit and to vacation. Spend your money at American businesses.
Already been around the world...so I'm good...

Sounds like a bad precedent
Meh. Those are the ones they don't already have...
This is the way! Free speech applies to American Citizens in America, not foreigers who may be potential terrorists.
What happens when you don't have a smart phone and don't have a social media presence?
