In essence the government will be closed for five days, Wednesday through Sunday. It might be the cover needed to move military units into Washington DC so when Congress opens on the following Monday a lot of them can be arrested. I hope so.
I doubt that Congress will open on the following Monday - 12/29. We'll be lucky if they're back by the following Monday after New Years, 01/05. IMO, more likely 01/06.
As a retired Fed, I remember getting many 12/26's off when it fell on a Fri. Don't ever remember getting 12/24 as a fed holiday but many agency/department heads would allow an early, staggered release.
BREAKING: President Trump signs executive order making Christmas Eve and December 26th OFFICIAL federal holidays:
“By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered:
All executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and Friday, December 26, 2025, the day before and the day following Christmas Day, respectively.”
PROVIDING FOR THE CLOSING OF EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENTS AND
AGENCIES OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON DECEMBER 24, 2025, AND DECEMBER 26, 2025
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered:
Section 1. All executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and Friday, December 26, 2025, the day before and the day following Christmas Day, respectively.
Sec. 2. The heads of executive departments and agencies may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on December 24, 2025, or December 26, 2025, or both, for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need.
Sec. 3. December 24, 2025, and December 26, 2025, shall be considered as falling within the scope of Executive Order 11582 of February 11, 1971, and of 5 U.S.C. 5546 and 6103(b) and other similar statutes insofar as they relate to the pay and leave of employees of the United States.
Sec. 4. The Director of the Office of Personnel Management shall take such actions as may be necessary to implement this order.
Sec. 5. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.
(d) The costs for publication of this order shall be borne by the Office of Personnel Management.
This is long overdue, and I hope private industries follow suit. I'm now retired, but when I was still employed, there was nothing I hated more than going back to work the day after Christmas. And Christmas Eve is always a family holiday in itself.
I personally always hated working the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. My family is old school European... our parties would last well past midnight and we'd be tired just from the food alone.
Now undo Juneteenth, President’s Day, Labor Day, and MLK Day. There should only be Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, and a day to commemorate the ratification of the Constitution.

Same wavelength here.👏

January 6th you say? Something about that date seems special but I can’t put my finger on it 😉😂
That would be amazing...
Now do Election days....
Interesting. 🤔 Is there any other reason to do so, other than it’s the day before and day after Christmas? Is something big going to take place?
Good question, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Two more days for TAXPAYERS to pay & get nothing. HO, HO, NO! jmo
True that, but I'd be willing to bet the total amount of "work" done for the year will remain exactly the same haha
The leftist lunatics are already posting about Trump saying there is already too many holidays back in June
Then it’s time to get rid of fake holidays like kwanza, anything gay, etc etc. even things out.
They're just big mad the post office won't be open to return their XXL Slanket because it's too small, before the return window shuts....
Arrest the traitors now.

Easter is always on a Sunday, but I would consider Good Friday.
Can he take away silly Juneteenth holiday?!!
